12 Days of Tactical Christmas – Day #5

The outside has modular webbing for attaching additional pouches and padded shoulder straps stow away when not in use. Also includes heavy duty zippers, sternum strap, grab handle, loop material for patches and 3l hydration pocket.

Also, don’t forget, today’s winners as well as every other winner, will receive a 2012 Tac Girls Calendar. (Just the calendar, not any of the girls)

I prefer panel loader, it is easy for me to get anything I need in few seconds.

  2. Conner says:

I prefer side loading, so that the pack can be slung and accessed.

  3. awset7 says:

i prefer a top loader for a ruck, but definitely a panel loader for an assault pack.

  4. Sean Aber says:

Love assault packs. Not much ya cant do with them.

  5. Holger says:

Panel loaders offer more systematic packing and better overview when un-packing, which is why I like them.

  6. Ben Uecker says:

I prefer panel loaders. They just allow you to access your stuff a lot more easily and quickly without having to pull out all of the items on top to get to them.

  7. LCS says:

Being most of the time urban, a panel loader rocks… It can’t be beat allowing you to quickly access anything from deep inside your pack.

  8. Brock Bettenhausen says:

Larger rucks I like a top loader, but for something smaller like a day pack I use a panel.

  9. Thomas Hagan says:

Panel loaders… Keeps everything organized better for my needs.

  10. steve says:

raised on ALICE so a top loader

  11. Mike K says:

Panel loader makes it much easier to access hidden crap in odd nooks and crannies of the pack.

  12. Tattico says:

I prefer panel loader. It’s quickier instead of pulling out all the items if i have to take the bottom one than a top loader.

  13. John says:

I’ve always been issued top loaders. But I prefer panel loaders personally.

  14. Mark says:

Panel loader for a day/assault pack– but only if it has straps to take the tension off the zipper after you load it up. Just so much easier to get at your stuff without having to dig through everything.

Rucksack– even though I like panel loaders, to guard against blow out syndrome, it’s best to go with a top loader.

TT’s pack looks like some kind of compromise between the two.

  15. Steven W says:

Panel loader pack is what i currently use for my bug-out bag.

  16. Arthur says:

Panel loader for most things but a top loader can’t be ignored for when its needed.

  17. Matt says:

Both. Depends on what the pack is being used for. For a pack the size of the Tactical Tailor pack, I prefer a panel loader.

  18. MikeW says:

I prefer a panel loader for day to day and tactical applications, but for long travel i prefer a top loader because the interior space is usually larger. I currently own a convertible top load/panel that has zip out dividers. It is my baby, I can pack for mission specific and when everything has to go back, I just unzip the dividers and shove it all back in and head home.

  19. Kango says:

    Panel loader

  20. drako says:

Panel loader is my choice as they are more multi-purpose.

  21. Dave says:

For anything say 30L and below, panel. Bigger than that, top loader.

  22. Wulfi says:

Depends on intended use, but I have come to like the 3/4 openings for small assault packs, panel loaders for medic/EOD and top loaders for my main pack.

    Wulfi.

  23. Brendan says:

Panel loader here. With both assault packs and rucks its just easier to specific things out of specific pockets instead of having to rummage around.

  24. Neil says:

A panel loader; it is easier for me to keep things compartmentalized.

  25. DM says:

Panels are the balls so much easier to use.

  26. Francis says:

Top loader all the way. Just way easier to pack tight and light.

  27. AE says:

Top loader for anything more than a day trip.

  28. Ekku says:

Top loader is the only type I have experince of. Therefore top loader it is. Panel systems seem to be quite a good idea though, so maybe they are worth trying too.

  29. Ray says:

For an assault pack, my bag of choice is a panel loader like the Kifaru Maurauder. For a large ruck, it has to be a top loader.

  30. Victor says:

Depends on the Mission, but Panel loaders are the most versatile.

  31. Dana says:

    Def a top loader.

  32. Ange says:

    Panel loader absolutely.

  33. Doc Steel says:

I prefer a top loader for an aid bag and larger rucksack. I prefer panel for everything else

  34. Jason Welin says:

Panel loader, but I’m not picky.

  35. FastBlade17 says:

Yup, the big boy’s gotta load from the top. Nice to have a panel pocket(s) to stash stuff you need in a hurry. Also, comm gear & hydration bladders are hard to secure from the side!

  36. ben lewis says:

    Panel

  37. Chris says:

As others have said, it depends on the type of pack but I do like a panel loader.

  38. OPie says:

I prefer panel loaders. Easier to pack and allows quick access to all of your gear if you need to find something in a horry. Though I’m rocking a top loader now 🙂

  39. Ben says:

Top Loader for the large rucks; panel loader for the day-to-day stuff.

  40. Matt S says:

Panel loader all the way, keeps everything organized and ready for easy access. But I’ll take what I can get

  41. Brian says:

Panel Loader no doubt! Top loading is for your parents and people who like to repack kit everytime they need anything.

  42. tommy eversole says:

top load used alice pack in the army got used to it never had the chance to try a different type.

  43. Jason says:

    Panel Loader…..ease of access…..quick.

  44. kyle says:

It depends on the purpose…i am most familar with the top load design, but the panel lod design does work quite well. I would go with the panel load…only if its waterproof though. If not then the top load with a waterproof bag.

  45. Pete says:

Panel loader that’s for sure! Everything is easily accessible

  46. Ross says:

For smaller bags: top loader. It’s harder to accidentally empty all your crap onto the floor with a top loader, and I EDC a smaller top-loader. For larger bags, I’d prefer a panel loader so I don’t have to empty the whole bag to get something near the bottom.

  47. JPate says:

Panel loader is much easier to access items. Today’s zippers are strong enough there is no concern with blowout.

  48. Tatu says:

Top loader on rucksack, panel loader on assault pack for fast access

  49. Travis says:

I like panel loaders for ease of access

  50. packtray says:

Top loader. I’m unorganized and know it.
