SIG SAUER - Never Settle

Kryptek Highlander on NYCO

As part of the US Army Camouflage Improvement Effort, the four finalists must provide printed 50/50 NYCO and 500D Cordura to the Army so that they can have clothing and equipment produced for further testing.

Kryptek has provided this photograph, showing their Highlander pattern printed on 50/50 NYCO.

Seriously, this camoflage is sick. Even without seeing Crye’s submission, and side-by-side to the others, I believe this is next evolution of camoflage.

    Agree.

Looks like butterfly wings to me.

It looks cool but how does it perform in the field? I’ll admit I haven’t been looking into Kryptek too much. I am intrigued by the design though.

On a side note I would love to see all the patterns on Soldiers, in the field, in one photo! Example being all the desert and OCIE patterns in one, the transitionals and OCIE in another, and woodland and OCIE in the last. Just put the photo up on AKO or army.mil and let soldiers click and choose their pick for each. The Army could rack a huge number of stats on the patterns that way. Just a idea that popped up.

The fabric still hasn’t been completely produced to do what you’ve asked. I’m sure the Army will produce some photos once testing commences.

What kind of environment would this blend with?

I think it’s too light. Our eyes first notice light colors. Look around and pay attention to what your eyes are drawn to. That’s one of the major flaws of the ACU; it starts out light colored and fades even lighter.

    • SSD says:

We notice contrast. For example, in a desert you are going to notice dark colors first.

But, to answer your question, that pattern is their transitional variant.

      • B. Elmore says:

I have to agree with Desert Lizard. I’m in the desert currently. Light colors appear first in my eyes when I look around.

Looks like UCP-Delta, with all its attendant advantages and disadvantages. If the Kryptek family is chosen and this becomes the transitional (OCIE) pattern, at least I will be able to continue using my UCP gear (maybe with some Krylon hits).

That the Crye entry STILL hasn’t been released (or leaked) to the unwashed makes me all the more interested in seeing it.
