    Cool! MARPAT! 😉

  2. Jarrod says:

    That’s US4CES, not MARPAT.

    • Haji says:

You don’t know what the “wink” means, I take it.

      • US Soldier says:

I got it. I joined the military in the 80s and served in both the US Marines and now US Army. Now deployed again to Afghanistan (my third combat tour); I think I have a good idea and feel for proper camouflage and uniform fit. The ACU cut is a very bad design when it comes to wear. The Marines can have a skinny looking guy and the uniform will fit and look sharp.

And no zippers on the pant pockets. I have that with the aviator multicam and I dont like it.

Everytime I body sling my weapon; my nametag falls off from the velcro or I stick to others due to it. Who was that idiot that decided on velcro? I hope he retired or got fired lol.

  3. Greg says:

Great! nice to see it in the ACU cut, now just picture it without all that crappy velcro on it then were good to go.

    • SSD says:

Chances are excellent that you won’t see any changes to the ACU cut when and if the new patterns roll out.

      • Greg says:

Not so from the complaints i’ve herd over the years about that rediciulos amount of velcro and zippers.

        Changes that came last year.

        1. Ditching that ugly as hell beret for the Patrol cap – CHECK

        2. Ditching velcro on the pants for buttons – CHECK

        3. Sew on badges/tapes in over pin ons – CHECK

Changes that still need to happen.

        1. Ditching the zipper on the ACU coat for buttons – WAITING

        2. Forth and finally a new camo (if one is picked) – WAITING

        Along with other things.

So im pretty confident sooner or latter that if they do pick a camo or not, they will have to do something about all that velcro on the coat. Noise decipline and all that comes into mind too. Keep in mind all these changes were the result of soldiers opinions who were unhappy with the way the uniforms looked and not from a pentagon desk jockeys point of view.

        • CAVstrong says:

          Add:
Lose the mansion collar (it’s worthless especially in the age of the combat shirt)
          And
          Return rank to the collar.

        • SSD says:

There are zero moves to change the ACU in the near future.

As for Velcro, there plenty of it on SOF uniforms and yet, they don’t seem to have near the issues with it that big Army guys do. Why is that?

          • Buckaroomedic says:

So, basically Greg and CAVstrong want the old BDU in a new color scheme? Why? So they can show off their bolo badges and branch? How ’bout get rid of the buttons on the ACU trousers and replace with a zipper? Wouldn’t that be more modern? Say all you want about the velcro, but every time my AD USAF wife has to shell-out $25/blouse to get her stuff sewn on . . . . the velcro looks really nice. Plus, velcro lets one go “sterile” real quick.

          • Greg says:

            I really doubt that.

They are special forces. They can put on whatever they please, because they are “special.” Regular infantry and SOF are way different when it comes to needs of uniform appearance and maintenance. Espesially this difference, (Regulars are frontline. SOF are behind the lines.)

Velcro is so unreliable after numerus of washes or trips into a swamp or mud and dirt, it becomes worthless rather quickly and nothing sticks to it after. So why keep it any for?

And to Buckaroomedic: There is a such thing as iron on patches too. If they want to show off the insignias thats fine with me. Me and CAVstrong don’t necessarily want the BDU back per-say. Just the spirit of it while keeping it modern. Keep the ACU cut but with these changes. And ONLY girly men and pansies say velcro looks really nice. Plus it’s not just me and CAV saying “whatever” we want about the velcro issue, its 100s if not 1000s of soldiers, airsofters, collectors and civilians saying it, infact we are shouting it.

            – Ditch or cut back on the cheap velcro/zippers all over and give back the buttons.

            – Put the waist pockets back on the same as the breast pockets while keeping the shoulder pockets (keep it slanted but even them out a little more) They are too slanted.

            – Get rid of the special pen pockets. Thats what the breast pockets are for.

            – If you can produce beige suede color for boots then you can produce it in the color black too.

            – Sew/iron on patches. Save the pin on’s for the ASU.

            – Get rid of the center placed rank and move them back on the collar where they belong.

            – Drop the Mandarin collar. This is the US Army. Not the Imperial Jappanese Army.

This ease of uniform care has fostered the undesirable mentality of laziness among the military (Army especially) And thats not good or healthy for any Soldier, Sailor, Airmen, Marine or Tax paying Civilian to be stuck behind a computer or desk, practicing Drone/Cyber Warfare all day, instead of being outside more and more. And sometimes a change in a uniforms camo or appearance can help cure alot of that.

          • US Soldier says:

Sterile real quick? I been to Iraq and now Afghanistan twice with the ACU and Multicam with this ridiculous velcro that you cannot go sterile unless you are Special OPS. Also, we were told that we could not sew on the US Army and our nametapes to our multicams since they are supposed to be turned in when we re-deploy in 3 months. Now I dont know SSD connections at the Pentagon but the uniform board meets bi-annually and what CAV and Greg makes sense. The mandarin collar is a waste since I rarely used it in up mode and the our SMA is taking in consideration the many vocal opinions about putting the rank on the collar on his recent visit to OEF (3 months ago). I will pay extra to sew my patch on (which I will always wear my 101st patch as my combat SSI). And tell the USAF to stop trying to copy the Army when they come down range. They have their own crapping uniforms. You dont see the Army wearing the Marine stuff which is obvioulsy much better. Also, the Army combat shirt needs to have a zipper instead of a mandarin collar as well. You are making soldiers look like punks with the current cut and style. Also, make the chest pockets more inboard.

This is already more than ridiculous with these so-called decision makers.

            • SSD says:

Seriously, why would you want the Air Force guys who work along beside you to wear a different uniform? Especially one that is less effective? Want that TACP to stand out for the enemy? All of the services USED to wear the same basic camouflage uniforms with slight embellishments.

I get a kick of these rants. Way back, oh say 8 years ago, there were these things called Woodland BDUs and you had to sew EVERYTHING on, and that cost an arm and a leg. Instead, they wanted velcro all over everything. The BDU was pretty much a compromise between a field and garrison uniform. It wasn’t a very good combat uniform design and units (and individuals) spent even MORE money modifying them for that use. Everyone complained about the cost. But we were at war so the Army developed a uniform for combat and then a few years later, they looked at what Crye had done and developed an even better one.

Now, a high percentage of the Army doesn’t even know what a crappy uniform the BDU was and all of the silliness that went with it and don’t really understand that their senior leaders grew up in peacetime and can’t wait to go back to that old garrison mentality. The guys who pine for the peacetime days will tell you how great the old stuff was. It wasn’t. It was more for show than go. War sucks, but peacetime sucks more. No money, no missions. Just BS, to the max.

  4. Scott says:

Still just looks like a Surpat pallet swap.

  5. COLDSTEEL says:

FIRST OFF I’D RATHER WEAR BDU’S OVER ACU ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. SECOND GET RID OF THE TAN BOOTS AND GO WITH BLACK OR BROWN SUEDE. GET RID OF ALL VELCRO. AS A SCOUT AS MUCH AS I GET DIRTY AND AM IN THE FIELD I SPENT MORE MONEY ON ACU’S AND THE ITEMS TO GO ALONG WITH THEM THAN WHEN I WAS WEARING BDU’S. I HATE ACU’S, THE GAY MANDARIN COLLAR AND THE CUT OF IT. I FEEL THE CUT WAS TO HIDE THOSE FAT ASSES BETTER SO THEY CAN STAY IN LONGER. I WORE THE DCU PROTOTYPE TO THE ACU AND IT WAS CALLED THE CCU. WAS A GOOD CUT UNIFORM AND WAS STILL DESERT CAMOFLAUGE. LETS STOP ARGUING AND GO WITH A WOODLAND PATTERN AND DESERT PATTERN WITH SEW ON EVERYTHING AND CALL IT A DAMN DAY.

  6. Chad T says:

As a former Marine and now Army Warrant Officer I am getting sick of all the uniform changes. I went through the change to MARPAT and I really love that uniform. The quality of the material is so much better than anything else I’ve used. Now in the ACU and A2CU I can’t believe the Army thought this was a superior uniform to anything else. The material quality is garbage and the cut is even worse. The Army doesn’t really enforce the standard of wear so most soldiers look like they are wearing pregnancy cammies because the blouses are too big. If I compare the same medium reg MARPAT blouse to the ACU blouse the two are night and day.

Why wouldnt the Army look at a total redesign of the uniform and not just the pattern? I don’t know of one single soldier that likes the uniform design. So the Army is going to spend another 6 billion dollars fielding another uniform until 10 years from now Congress is going to see how much money we are wasting and make all the services go back to the same uniforms again. Why doesnt the “big Army” listen to us?

    • SSD says:

I feel your pain but I gotta say, the only people who wear “blouses” are Marines and Girl Scouts. The Army wears coats and jackets.
