Looking Forward To This Osprey Title on Marine Recon Gear

Coming November, 2015, US Marine Corps Recon and Special Operations Uniforms & Equipment 2000-15 (Elite) by J. Kenneth Eward, professor at the American Military University. you may remember his other, great Osprey book on Marine Infantry equipment.

Eward does excellent research and has spoken at length with the men who developed this equipment.

As one who can probably never get the equipment for himself, this will suffice. I seriously hope there is unmatched accuracy from the SOPMOD variants to the Cryes.

While it is true that Crye G3 and NC-cut combat sets have popped up in both MARPATs variations, mainly in Force elements, they have probably all been exhausted by now and either destroyed or stolen. Seems that the decision was made that they really offer nothing over the standard FROG ensemble. FROGs are cheaper and they don’t have to jump through hoops to make an open purchase with Crye. The Corps is still downsizing.

I am interested in some pictures of the old MBSS/FSBE gear in woodland. I don’t know where all this stuff ended up going, but there is barely any of it floating around.

Not sure why they’ve got Charlie Sheen on the front cover!
