Dom Raso and Daniel Winkler have a long relationship and Dom approached Daniel to develop and produce a fighting knife based on his experience as a combatives instructor and fighting down range.

The double-edge blade design can be used both forward and reverse grip to accommodate all fighting styles including those who are students of Martial Blade Concepts. In fact, grip is a key factor with a textured rubber grip (featuring the Dynamis logo) riveted to a full tang which is Skeletonized handle for weight. The 4″ blade is forged from CPM3V. It is also concealable with additional blade options under development. Look for more details soon.

SOFIC 2014 – Saevus – G1 Urban Bayonet

Tuesday, May 27th, 2014

One of the things I miss about this new super-sized SOFIC is the small business aspect. You used to walk into SOFIC and see lots of innovative small companies that develop products to support SOF. Some of those things are still there, but now they’re generally tucked into a larger company’s booth. This year, in the booth of Faircount Media, publishers of “The Year In Special Operations” were a couple of such products. One was the Strykr Covert Carry pant but the one that caught my eye was a wooden box containing a knife.

Turns out, it was the G1 Urban Bayonet from Saevus. It’s a very innovative design and I definitely give the creator some credit for thinking outside the box. Essentially, what you are looking at, is a knife that pulls double duty as a foregrip. Granted, most of us have abandoned full length foregrip a due to weight and ergonomics. But look past that because the blade of the G1 stores in the grip and being spring activated, telescopes out into position once deployed. The 3-1/2″ Dual Edge Dagger Blade is made from 440 stainless and the handle is of urethane casting resin.

While it’s time may have already passed due to TTP changes, it’s definitely an interesting design and I look forward to seeing what else SAEVUS comes up with.

SOFIC 2014 – SOG Specialty Knives & Tools

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

SOG has updated the popular Trident folder with an additional model called the Trident Elite. While the original is still available, SOG answered customer requests by adding a glass breaker, introducing co-molded rubber on the handle for an enhanced grip and upgraded the spring to the SAT 2.0 flat spring technology. This new spring consists of a wound flat bar making it the fastest spring they have.

Additionally, the carry profile remains the same with the same strap cutter. The 3.7″ blade is crafted from Japanese AUS8 steel and the handle is a combo of Glass Reinforced Nylon co-molded with rubber. Offered in polished satin and TiNi finish. Finally, the glass breaker features a carbide tip.

TORIS – TROIKA Knife

Wednesday, May 7th, 2014

20140507-001856.jpg

Developed by Meynard Ancheta of Kali Dynamics with input from Torin Hill of TORIS and made by knife maker Jeff Crowner, the TROIKA is a purpose-built fighting knife intended as an improvement of point-first knives such as the Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife.

The blade is designed for rapid-penetration/rapid-release, made from CPM 3V steel with Crowner Heat Treatment. The grip, which consists of hand-filed G10 scales, is designed with a neutral shape for style-agnostic use: “point up/down, blade forward/reversed… TROIKA don’t care.”

The TROIKA comes with a TORIS draw-driven Kydex sheath and color matched aluminum trainer knife.

The TROIKA G10 scales come in Graphite, Olive Drab, Coyote, and Black. The trainer G10 scales come in Red, Politician Red, Blueblack, and Politician Blueblack. Mounting options include a belt clip, brass studs, mini Tek-Lok, or Bawidamann small PUP.

Made in America, assembled by Veterans.

American Kami Introduces Colubris II Line and a Surprise

Tuesday, May 6th, 2014

I must admit that I have been somewhat remiss in sharing this news, so I apologize. I actually found out about this during last month’s USASOC Sniper Competition and told American Kami’s DJ Urbanovski that I would share this with my readers. I’m holding up my promise, but I’m late. However, the info is just as cool today as it was when I first learned of it.

As you may recall, American Kami has collaborated with Böker to transition the original, fixed blade, Colubris design into a production model. Last Fall, DJ started working on the next iteration of the design which is now known as the Colubris II.

20140505-195043.jpg

Just like the original, the new Colubris II will feature CPM S35VN with a tumble over heat treat finish and G10 scales. There are three models; the N for Nano, the S for Small and the M which is Medium and a direct replacement for the original model.

20140505-194733.jpg

Additionally, you can see the GTFO knife. It too is crafted from S35VN and offers more alternative force applications than other daggers. It incorporates an ‘almost civilian legal everywhere’ sub-3″ blade and can be used as a utility knife as well. Mount may also notice the “spur” in the ring handle.

20140505-194509.jpg

DJ builds one heck of a knife meaning they are quite popular and difficult to find. If you are serious about getting one of his knives or axes, I suggest contacting him through his website. He’s a very humble guy, easy to work with, and will get you on a waiting list.
