GI Joe 2 – Remember, It’s Just a Movie

Thursday, March 28th, 2013

Let’s face it. Movies like “GI Joe” are gear porn for your eye holes. Our favorite moments are often Schwarzenegger gearing up in ‘Commando’ or Lee Marvin kicking some Nazi ass in ‘The Dirty Dozen’. So lower your guard for an evening and enjoy some explosions and exotic firearms with the added bonus of laughing on the inside (or maybe the outside) at what promises to be some very tactically appropriate one-liners.

GI Joe 2

It was no surprise to me to hear that our friends at Tactical Pro Shop, LLC. had again been involved with outfitting the GI Joe team. And, like an unscrupulous arms dealer playing both sides, they outfitted the Cobra troops as well.

“Our involvement usually starts with a phone call giving us the broad strokes like ‘were going to be in the desert’, and we round up coolest looking, or technically accurate, apparel and gear to fit those parameters,” related Tactical Pro Shop’s Matt Kime. He went on to say, “We are extremely fortunate to have earned the trust of the separate departments that are involved with the apparel and gear. And the Directors and Tech Advisors appreciate that our day job is outfitting the real-life versions of the characters they are depicting.”

“We treat our film projects with the same degree of confidentiality that we extend our Military and LE customers. In most cases, I avoid specific story details as much as possible, so I can enjoy actually watching the movie.”

Matt is particularly impressed with Ray Park’s depiction of Snake Eyes, 12 year old’s personnel hero, “I was fortunate to be able to visit the set in Louisiana for the filming of one of the final sequences of the movie, and the characters look amazing. The Snake-Eyes suit in this film is the truest to the character it has ever been. We did not have anything to do with the suit, but he does use some custom pieces we made pretty extensively.”

Matt told us to keep our eyes peeled for some custom pieces from Aker Leather, Blade-Tech, Viking Tactics, Yates, Line Of Fire, and a BUNCH more.

Go see GI Joe 2 and remember, it’s just a movie.

MURPH: The Protector is the story of Navy SEAL LT Michael Murphy’s life as told by his friends, family and teammates. Michael was raised in Patchogue, New York, attended Penn State University and then joined the U.S. Navy to serve in the SEAL Teams. He gave his life for his men in 2005 and was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor in 2007. This weekend, MURPH: The Protector opens across the nation at select Regal Cinemas.

“The Regal team understands how this film will connect with moviegoers across the country,” said Scott Mactavish, the film’s director. “It’s critical that we honor and remember those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms, and Regal recognizes that there’s an audience eager to hear this story. We’re honored to call them partners.”

A portion of the proceeds from the film will go to the LT Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation. Formed by LT Murphy’s family in August 2005, the Foundation was given New York Department of Education approval and incorporated in New York. The Foundation was granted IRS tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation with the expressed written purpose of providing academic scholarships.

Panteao Productions Presents – Battle of the Black Sea

Monday, March 18th, 2013

Panteao Productions presents “Battle of the Black Sea” a documentary look at the events leading up to and including the combat operation in Mogadishu, Somalia on 3-4 Oct, 1993. The interview-style video features MSG Paul Howe (USA, Ret), a Veteran of that battle. I spent the weekend watching the video’s many chapters and I can say that it is excellent. He points out instances where the movie “Blackhawk Down” incorrectly depicts the events and speaks very frankly about subjects that few are willing to broach even in private. If you want a look behind Howe’s mindset and experience on planning and executing combat operations, this is a must see. I highly recommend it.
