Caveat Emptor – Counterfeit Alert – E-Lite

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

We’ve mentioned counterfeit individual equipment several times here on SSD. Each time we run across a new case, the counterfeiters become more bold and the knockoffs more insidious. We have seen holsters, boots, gun sights, and even medical equipment. This time it’s the V-lite from S&S Precision. A company has produced a very similar product, copying everything except the actual name and this is the best clue that you have an unauthorized copy. If your light says “E-lite” instead of “V-lite” you’ve got a counterfeit copy. Otherwise, it looks just like the real thing.

The counterfeit E-lite is on the left and the Real McCoy V-lite is on the right.

Do not purchase counterfeit equipment. Not only do these bogus products steal from the companies that developed them, but their use can also result in mission failure or worse yet, injury or even death. Always ensure that you purchase your equipment from an authorized seller. Generally, if the deal seems to good to be true, it is. Remember, buy quality, cry once.

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

At first you may ask, “What’s a Quick Response (QR) Code?” You may already know about it and not even realize it. Have you ever noticed that matrix bar code on Military Morons’ photos? Or maybe seen a big square bar code in a magazine ad? If you use your smart phone’s camera and a bar code reader to read it, it will send you to a website to learn more. And this is exactly what S&S Precision’s new QR code does. In their case it takes you to their online catalog. Try it.

“Scan me with your mobile device and watch as I instantly deliver the S&S 2011 Catalog to your phone…” Think of it as “…badass alien technology!”

S&S Precision’s M320 Accessories

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

As the M320 becomes more and more common in the Army, troops are beginning to realize how versatile it is and what an improvement over the M203 it offers. For example, it is easily attached and detached from the M4 and M16 for use as a stand alone Grenade Launcher. As issued, when it is used in this stand-alone configuration, the shoulder stock is awkward and there is not a versatile direct-over-bore mounting solution for aiming devices. But, for those who want more from their M320, S&S Precision has developed a Buttstock and GL Sight Mount, that when attached to the M320, greatly increase its versatility.

Sure, there’s a stock available from H&K and the buttpad is huge. The S&S Precision option is manufactured from 7075 Aluminum, with a small rubber composite pad and attachment point for retention systems. Additionally, it features three stops and is easily removed from the weapon like an M4 stock.

The GL Sight Mount consists of a Mount Base as well as two configurable bases; a Low Profile Rail and a Stepped Rail. As you can see, it is designed to mount directly above the bore rather than offset to the side and can be configured with either rail to accommodate your aiming solution. The mount is raised in order to facilitate a good cheek weld. This also means that you can fully collapse the stock below the mount.

Additionally, S&S Precision builds the M320 holster, designed specifically to carry the weapon in its stand alone configuration. Made from Kydex, it is a rigid holster and features a bungee back up retention as well as a barrel plug to keep it debris free.

The M320 Holster You’ve Been Looking For

Friday, November 26th, 2010

In March, we introduced you to S&S Precision’s Holster for the M320 Grenade Launcher. Simple, yet effective, it provides a carrying solution yet unmatched.

Overall, Soldiers like the new M320 40mm Grenade Launcher but prefer to carry it in the stand alone configuration due to its weight and attached aiming device. Employing the weapon in this fashion also has the added bonus that the Grenadier will concentrate on using the launcher as a primary weapon rather than an add-on the M16/M4.

The issue with this is how to carry it. Soldiers have dreamed up several Rube Goldberg contraptions to secure the weapon when not in use. However, the best answer I have seen is the Grenade Launcher Holster from S&S Precision. Available in left and right versions, the mounting systems allows the holster to be attached to the armor at virtually any angle. Since most troops use the launcher with butt stock, there is also a paddle available for the holster to allow it to be hip mounted.

The launcher is held in place by a molded plastic shroud that grips the barrel. Additionally, the barrel sits atop a plug that features an O ring designed to keep debris out of the muzzle. The Grenade Launcher Holster also comes with a bungee to further secure the weapon when needed.

I highly recommend that Grenadiers take a look at this solution. It is also something that the folks at PM-Individual Weapons should consider. The holster is available from Grey Group.
