TYR Tactical – Huron Cold Weather Uniform Anorak

tyr-cwu106-ank-2

I’ve always liked anoraks but there aren’t a lot of lightweight, waterproof breathable models available, let alone any in MultiCam. When I saw a developmental version of the The Huron™ Cold Weather Uniform Anorak, I was pretty excited and hoped that they’d be able to secure enough Polartec® Neoshell to do a run. It looks like they were successful. If you’re unfamiliar with Neoshell, it’s an extremely lightweight, waterproof breathable fabric, making it great for high intensity activities. Additionally, the Anorak incorporates a quarter-zip collar design to assist with venting and donning and doffing but also makes it easy to batten down the hatches in rough weather.

The hood can be cinched down in the front and back while worn but doesn’t compromise your peripheral vision even though your head is warm and dry.

Two full length, 2-way zippers on both sides of the Anorak allow you to access the front panel of your vest beneath, or vent excess heat when needed. Additionally, the front of the jacket was designed to “roll and stow” providing unimpeded access to your kit. The stowing tab can be easily released when finished.

Additionally, the cuffs feature Velcro adjustable tabs. Finally, the entire Anorak is seam taped to provide both 100% waterproof and breathable protection.

I immediately thought “an anorak design with two zippers is pointless” and then i saw the picture of the rolled up front exposing a chest rig. Genius.

This is very nice, I may have to get myself an early Christmas gift!

My question is on sizing, is this like a smock, where you want a size up perhaps if wearing with kit and armor but I myself will most likely not need that.

$500! This stuff is getting ridiculous……

  4. Invictus says:

Great design. The front zips will also dump heat with the quickness.

    Any plans for other colorways?

Here is how I see the whole price deal….if it’s too expensive just move on.

People are always lookin for something cheaper but then whine like a 3 year old with a wet diaper when it fails, blaming everyone but themselves for buying cheap crap.

Now I realize not everyone can afford to drop $500 on what many consider a mere wind breaker but always complaining about cost will not lower the price.

I would love a $500,000 home but I simply can’t afford it so I don’t bother looking at them nor complain that they are priced “so high”.

TYR dropped the price of their smock from $400 to $200 last year or so, and appear to no longer sell it… now this may not be the result of people complaining about the high prices, but it’s likely that the lack of sales for such high priced items was. Especially when there are less expensive versions of these items being produced by other companies.

    I am into it.

Is this Multicam or OCP? The pattern seems a little plain but I might be just fooling myself.

  7. Loopy says:

If you are OK with solid OD or black, try the Buffalo Special 6 as an alternative.
