Now’s Your Chance To Get A Surplus M17 MHS Pistol from SIG SAUER

This is the first time in a LONG while you’ve got a chance to purchase a GI handgun so quickly after it was adopted. These are surplus M17 Modular Handgun System Pistol’s, based on SIG SAUER’s commercially available P320 in 9mm.

The pistols are not that old and were swapped out by the US Army in order to pure fleet the pistols with the Black controls.

Some of these firearms have already been used on operational deployments. The example I handled during a recent visit to SIG had a rack number painted on the grip. Wear will vary.

These are very limited in numbers and will go quickly. If you want an issue MHS pistol without waiting for years, get it NOW.

Here is their press release:

NEWINGTON, N.H., (December 17, 2019) – SIG SAUER, Inc. is honored to bring authentic, M17 Military Surplus handguns to the commercial market. The M17 Military Surplus handguns were manufactured under contract with the U.S. Army according to the original specifications of the Modular Handgun System (MHS). This is an exclusive, limited availability offering from SIG SAUER and the condition of the handguns will vary based on field use.

“The M17 Military Surplus handguns are a very special release from SIG SAUER, that gives consumers the opportunity to own a piece of history, and includes a certificate of authenticity,” said Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Commercial Sales. “These handguns were originally issued by the U.S. Army and fielded during the initial domestic and in-theater deployment of the Modular Handgun System. The unique, one-of-a-kind, features of the M17 Surplus handguns include coyote controls, the original government-issue markings and serial numbers, and orange rear and green front SIGLITE Night Sights, which will make them coveted by both military and firearms collectors alike.”

The M17 Surplus handgun is a 9mm, striker-fired, P320-based handgun platform, featuring a coyote-tan PVD coated stainless steel slide, coyote-tan controls, a coyote-tan medium carry grip module, with the U.S. Government slide markings and serial numbers. The handguns are equipped with SIGLITE sights (orange rear & green front), removable night sight rear plates, and the same optic cut as specified by the MHS contract, and ready to fit a SIG SAUER Electro-Optics ROMEO1Pro Optic. The M17 features an ambidextrous manual safety, ships with (1) 17-round and (2) 21-round magazines, includes an official SIG SAUER M17 Certificate of Authenticity, and comes packed just as the handguns are delivered to the U.S. Military.

    AWESOME!

  2. Joe says:

I just called my local “Elite” SIG dealer, he hasn’t gotten an email and said they only sell to him in quantity anyway.

Enjoy the collector’s up charge on Gunbroker…

  3. Lucky says:

So ahhhhh… Their website has no indication as to how to sign up for this… Is this a Civilian Marksmanship Program thing?

  4. TheFull9 says:

How important really is ‘pure fleeting’? I saw a hell of a lot of females and smaller guys clearly having a less-than-ideal time having to EDC M16A4s last time I was away.

  5. Marcus says:

Honestly I am so tired of the guessing games with these specials. I called my Sig Dealer and he was like- huh?

Sig, love you man but tell people where to find them. There is no reason to make me do NAV on this.

  6. TKS says:

Please tell me there is a bigger, more important reason than “pure fleeting” colored controls. How many critical items could i have purchased for my clinic with the money for only cosmetic color coordination? Spray paint at the armory would way cheaper if that was the sole reason.

  7. Bob says:

Wow! They look amazing! Me being an Army Vet, this would be the ultimate keepsake!????????

  8. The Stig says:

Love that Sig made a commemorative M17 with the tan controls they knew the Army wasn’t getting anymore, sold it to the public for an inflated price advertising it as what the military was getting, and a yearish later all the actual M17s with tan controls were dumped back to Sig for the black controls.

If there’s a lesson here, don’t trust Sig.

    • Eye Rolling says:

They didn’t lie. The Army selected the MHS in the same commemorative configuration they sold. It’s just that the Army changed how the pistols are to be delivered. You’re mad because SIG is selling guns?

      • Chris says:

Those commemorative ones you speak of people getting screwed by sig are getting well over $3,000.00 as we speak.

  9. STEVE Roman says:

    Fixed price or auction?

  10. Jason Wood says:

I’m interested in purchasing a M17, how do I make this happen

  11. LGonSS says:

I imagine seeing one of these on Ian Maccollum’s grandma’s version’s of Forgotten weapons around the year 2100.

  12. Babyjoe says:

    Awesome ?

  13. Bob says:

So, did Sig compensate the Army for these or what? The Army is seriously getting rid of servicable pistols because they don’t like the color?

Otherwise this looks like a case of wasted money.

  14. CAP says:

So rather than swap out a handful of non-serialized parts, the Army scrapped entire pistols, only because they wanted all of them to be the same color?

That totally makes sense. Im sure there weren’t any other issues with them, and a highly trustworthy company like SIG would tell us if there were.

  15. This is a nice gun. I would love to own one them. Where do I submit an application to buy one. Also what will be the price of this firearm ?

  16. Marc. S. Glade says:

How do I get a M17 surplus Pistol I have no distributor here so can I order be and have it sent to my dealer

  17. Richard Dilly says:

All sig dealers I’ve contacted state that sig has not shipped these out but gunbroker.com has several that are being bid on but you need an FFL. So with a limit of 10,000 I’m thinking my chances are slim of getting one. Places like gunbroker.com will make a lot of money on these. I’m over a 20 year vet and would love one of these.

  18. Bill Moore says:

How can I get one of them
