Strike Industries AK Rear Rail

AKs are inexpensive so lots of guys are picking them up. Consequently, we are seeing more and more accessories for the AK family to soup them up. One of the latest examples is this AK Rear Sight Rail For Low Profile Red Dot Optics from Strike Industries.

Basically, it replaces the rear sight with a 1913 rail so that you can mount an MRDS or other sights.

An example of real-world armorers learning from the airsoft customization world

Can it co-witness with any optics?

  3. PSD says:

I visited the website and found it has a small grove in the middle of the rail for sighting with irons. It appears that it doesn’t co-witness but has the ability to still use irons with optic in place.

    Thanks for the heads up

I can’t see how the v grove would help use the irons…it’s an easy 10mm to 1/2″ above the irons sight line.

I realy can’t see this as a great design…I’d have to raise my cheek rest to get a good sight picture.

Why limit yourself to that little bit of 1913 real estate that eliminates any chance of back-ups? A beryl mount seems more sensible than that. Or even the VFR rail so you can retain the iron sights. Too far forward – just like the upper hand guard rails.

JP, while I personally advocate the VFR rail (Mako fanboy) I must say the pricepoint on this mount makes it very attractive.

I still prefer the AK rail designs that MI puts out. Better ergonomics, design, and frankly look. You get optic usage and lower 1/3 cowitness without any serious modification to the gun.

this might seem contrarian but i think any rail system that is slapped on to an AK that isnt using the side mount rail is bad designe. the issue i see is any Modification to the AK for sights is problematic for the western style of shooting. regardless of how the optics are seated to still use iron sights on an AK along with your optics means you will have to change your position to go from one set of sites to another, which is not really seen as appropriate with modern shooting techniques.

simply put An AK is designed to use iron sights or a few specific optics, the idea of putting RIS rails on a AK for optics is a good way to make the gun less versatile rather than more versatile.

Or you could go with a Texas Weapon Systems Dogleg 2 or Front Handguard setup…
