Three, maybe four different uniforms and all from one Wing. And unless the guy who is mostly hidden is wearing a Flight Suit, the ABU is the only authorized uniform there. Gotta love the SERE Specialist in his Crye Precision field uniform tho. He gets an ‘A’ for effort.
These are members of the 375th Wing going through Combat (in some units Continuation) Survival Training at the Illinois Army National Guard’s Sparta Training Area. Go check out the AF News article. It’s a lot better than the photos.
Seems like the AF News link isn’t working.
just click on the Survival Training link.
And i think that SERE guy is all kinds of mall ninja. I espically like the ghilly suit and white socks. blends right in
Yep it’s madness
Went from DCUs to flight suits, then went to ABSGs, and now multicam for Outside the Wire deployments, the AF really needs to figure something out!
When I went to SV-88 we were authorized to wear our older no-longer authorized uniforms because they were going to be ruined anyway.
The instructors wore multicam because they were prior-military/civilian contractors and didn’t need to adhere to any sort of Air Force regulations.
That ain’t S-V88-A but it’s an interesting point.
I’m aware of this. My point was that maybe there were similar regulations at the SERE refresher course.
You had civilian instructors at S-V88-A?
We look on in amazement from over the pond at you colonials and your multitude of uniforms. We have much diversity in our ceremonial uniforms but the ‘combat kit’ is all the same across the services – or it will be when we have finished transitioning from old style woodland and desert DPM to new multicam style MTP.
Why do the Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps need different uniforms to the Army? Is it some kind of willy waving contest? I don’t suppose it matters as long as the tax payer is content to pay for it.
Because you tea swilling tyrant we like to waste money on silly uniforms!
Because our generals like to watch pissing patches between branches, but there is silver lining comming our way soon.
Unless mandated by a training command there is no standard uniform for field training.
Crye is the uniform of record for the Guardian Angel Weapon System. GAWS consists of SERE, PJ, and CRO.
Despite your assertions to the contrary there is no such thing as a “field training” uniform in the Air Force, regardless of AFSC.
For the record, this article was posted 30 March 2011 and the BDU was still authorized back then. Also, there are quite a few civilian contractors working with the SERE community, but the military instructors often wear Multicam as well. They are not authorized to wear it in the main base area, however.
Multicam is issued throughout the Battlefield Airman Management System (BAMS) and is locally authorized for SERE Field Training. Most operations groups that SERE guy belong to has locally signed Operating Instructions that also authorize BAMS items for use in continuation field training, as well as a “water survival” uniform in some cases.
Like I said before it is our GAWS uniform of record. That means BAMS issues it to all of us PJ’s, SERE Bubbas, and CRO’s to wear in the field and while on deployed ops.
