Softshell Tech – Drac Giveaway

In this final installment of our series on Arc’teryx LEAF’s softshell tech, we are giving one lucky reader a chance to win a set of Drac Jacket and Pant manufactured from Burly Double Weave.

The Drac Jacket is a welcome addition to the LEAF line. It features pit zips and two bicep pockets with Velcro fields for IFF as well as two zippered hand warmer pockets mounted low on the jacket in the traditional fashion. Additionally, the cuffs incorporate die-cut laminated Velcro adjusters.

Burly Double Weave is made for cold weather so you’re getting wind and water resistance along with a generous 4-way stretch. The Drac jacket combines combat jacket styling with a generous cut. The same can be said of the pant. If you’re on the edge between sizes, go down rather than up.

The Drac Pant features an interesting combination of styling and features. It’s as if the Combat Pant and Sphinx Pant had a baby. All of the features of the Sphinx with the stretchy goodness of Burly Double Weave.

You get:
-Two slash hand pockets
-Two rear pockets with angled access
-Two tool pockets with Cordura reinforcement
-Two calf pockets with flaps
-Two cargo pockets with flaps that fit standard rifle magazines and are easy to access from a seated position
-Built-in gaiters
-Ingenious webbing covered kneepad pockets with access points for straps

Both the Drac Jacket and Pant are available in Crocodile as well as Wolf sizes Small – XXLarge.

At the request of Arc’teryx, this giveaway is restricted to MIL/LEO. For your chance to win, in the comments section of this posting on SSD, tell us how you learned about Arc’teryx LEAF and how long you’ve known about the LEAF program. Use your real email address to enter because that is how you will be contacted in case you win. You may use a civilian email address to enter but official email addresses are preferred. The winning email address is the only one that will be shared and that is with Arc’teryx to arrange for your prize. If you use a civilian email address it will certainly delay your prize due to verification and if you cannot be satisfactorily verified we will choose another winner. Your posting may have to be approved so be patient of it doesn’t show right up. Only one entry per person. The contest closes at 0001 GMT, 2 June, 2012. At that point, SSD will randomly draw a winner from the entries. We will then pass the name and email address of the winner to the Arc’teryx LEAF team and they will contact the winner and arrange shipment.

Void where prohibited.

I heard about their stuff from a friend about 2 years ago. Do not have
any of their stuff yet, but will soon.

  2. Geoff C says:

Have know about the program since 2009 and have been a big fan ever since. Have seen what the products (knee pads as well as clothing) can take during several deployments to Afghanistan as well as during several snr Nco crses during the harsh Canadian winters, and wet springs.

  3. Fred says:

I also learned of it right here on SSD last year at some time, and have been drooling over it ever since.

  4. Matt S. says:

I definitely want this. learned about leaf from you guys, bought a couple of things and have been hooked since.

  5. Chris Colby says:

I learned about LEAF last year when I was looking for a quality fleece jacket. I learned about the giveaway form Breach Bang Clear.

  6. Ipkiss says:

I came across the LEAF products for the first time while viewing militarymorons’ site. In particular the Alpha jacket. That must have been around 2 years ago. When I finally laid my hands on one, it was too short for me unfortunately.
This dra jacket would be awesome on its own or under a hardshell.

  7. Eric says:

I first heard about the LEAF line hear at SSD about a year ago and had a chance to see some of the items in person through a local rep.

  8. Forrest says:

I heard about LEAF when a couple of my guys on my team purchased a Griffon Jacket for use overseas. I wore one while on patrol one day and fell in love with the quality and comfort.

  9. patrick lennan says:

I attend a lot of training, and most high end users of gear state the guilty and design of Arcteryx LEAF clothing. I began using them about two years ago. I have nothing but praise for the company.

  10. Mac says:

I first heard about LEAF from Soldier Systems (maybe 2 or 3 years ago?). I have a few of the Arcteryx Civilian Items, but nothing from LEAF.

  11. straps says:

When I deployed–again–to Iraq in support of the Surge in 2007, I was at Tier One Outfitters by Bragg and saw that Arc’Teryx had done their line in Coyote–and Multicam. I bought a Bravo jacket and Charlie pack that rarely left my side. I’m not that guy who keeps tags–not sure if the LEAF line had officially been christened but I learned about the LEAF effort on Lightfighter soon after. Made TOTAL sense. I’ve continued to add to my LEAF collection–I got in on that novelty run of UCP jackets at Grey Group (drives my command team NUUUTS–they’re jealous because they don’t have anything that pimpin’) and got a LOT of use out of my Naga Hoody last winter (I doubt I sold as many as Costa did but I’ll bet I helped), and rock the BAC whenever appropriate (and sometimes when NOT). A Sphinx halfshell is on the list for this year. So yeah, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

  12. Tom C says:

I have been on the LEAF program for years. I have used Arcteryx LEAF clothing on multiple deployments. The design and fuction of the clothing is second to none.

  13. Christopher says:

I read this and that about LEAF on SSD but knew of Arc’teryx from working with Navy EOD and SF operators down range. They were sporting it off mission.

I first learned about LEAF at the SHOT show about two years ago.

I learned about LEAF clothing from SSD also about a year ago. I can say from an operational perspective that this is some clothing I would like to utilize downrange. I own some dead bird gear and swear by the uncompromising quality. Thank you SSD for keeping all of us up to date with the latest and greatest.

  21. Marshall Westfall says:

Hello, the first I heard about LEAF was after watching some MAGPUL training videos and then researching the gear that was used. I found the info through Haley Strategic and here on SSD. I do not currently have any of the products but after reading reviews I believe that it must be some high quality kit.

  22. Alex says:

Heard about Arc’teryx first when a buddy of mine was wearing a pair of Kneecaps in October of 2008. I googled for reviews of the kneecaps and found Military Morons, which is where I learned about LEAF for the first time.

I’ve been loving the product line since then!

  23. Patrick says:

I heard about their products when I was a GPC card holder and working with ADS. I own their knee pads and a pair of their gloves. Great Gear

  24. Carl says:

I heard about it from a friend who had the gore-tex issued about 3 years ago.
Later i had the knee pads issued.

  25. John says:

Someone I work with closely who did a lot of work in 1st group recommended Arc’teryx to me. I have the civvy Theta AR now and will be getting a Bravo to augment in the fall. I have only known about being able to enroll in the LEAF program (previously just thought it was a clothing line) for a few months and found that out by exploring on the site.

  26. Jack says:

I learned about LEAF over at Military Morons back in 2009 when prepping for my deployment to Iraq.

  27. Husky says:

Excellent product!(in the past) Lousy customer service… never answer my e-mail questions!…the quality control seems getting worse! How can you put a penny size patch on a Goretex parka and pass the QC?
You moved the combat jacket line out of Canada to El Salvador and still have your old combat jacket picture on the website! Come on guys! Don’t be so lazy!

  28. Matt Lockitski says:

I learned about LEAF about one year ago. I believe it was from Facebook having something to do with Haley/Costa.

  29. Greg says:

Learned about the LEAF line shortly after they first came out. I believe I learned about it through the LEAF website directly, but Soldier Systems has definitely kept me informed about it throughout the years.

  30. Colin Michael says:

Found out about leaf a year ago through this website and it’s coverage of their products.

  31. Michael says:

I learned about Arc’teryx LEAF from Soldier Systems: at the time time I was searching for other companies besides Wild Things Tactical that sold quality tactical clothing. I’m hoping to win some stuff.

  32. Ammo Kan says:

I learned about LEAF after I bought a combat jacket at the Grey Group store outside of Bragg when I was home on leave about a year and a half ago.

  33. Pat says:

  34. Bryan says:

I heard about the LEAF line from some of my buddies in my unit about a year or so ago. I’ve only heard good things about it and I actually have a pair of the knee caps being shipped to me now!

  35. Loo says:

I heard about the LEAF program from other military members about 5 years ago and have been a member since. I currently own a Bravo jacket, Naga hoody, two BAC hats, a beanie and two LEAF shirts.

  36. Kristjan says:

I first came over LEAF on soldiersystems about half year ago.

  37. Andrew says:

Heard about LEAF on soldiersystems and I have been a huge Dirt Bird fan ever since.

  38. Josh says:

I heard about them in 2008 when a friend got their knee pads. I liked them and I did the same.

  39. Robert Esposito says:

I discovered Arc’teryx LEAF around 2007. I am a U.S. Marine and when I looked at the inside tag on my ILBE pack, I saw it read “Manufactured by Propper International, Designed by Arcteryx”.

I though that was an unusual name for a company so I did some googling.

After experiencing how incredible their Alpha and Bravo Jackets were, I never looked back. I still have the first Alpha I bought from their LEAF program, and even after a couple years of hard abuse, I suspect it will serve me well in years to come. The LEAF product line has some extremely well thought out pieces of kit, and I will definitely continue being loyal customer for years to come.

  40. Stephen says:

I only recently heard about the LEAF program here on SSD when the Naga Hoody was released in Wolf. I now own the Naga Hoody in Wolf and love it!!! Thanks SSD!

I saw the first LEAF Acreryx here on SSD. Shortly after I saw it used and have even used the clothes in the Norwegian Armed Forces. Indisputable good quality.

  42. Wayne says:

I have known about Arcteryx for about 5 years now and I have always like their stuff. It was not until I was in Afghanistan that I talked to our FSO about some of the equipment he had from them and he raved about it and then told me about LEAF. As soon as I redeployed I immediately started ordering from LEAF and love their equipment. It is so incredibly versatile for multiple weather situations. I have a wish list for my wife of just about everything they sell….lol

  43. Michael says:

Heard about LEAF while looking for a new jacket. First visited their website around two years ago.

  44. Seth says:

Hey, known about you guys Arc’teryx for about 2.5 years. I was at the range and saw someone wearing some and gave a look into it and bam. Proud owner of some of their stuff now.

Sooner or later, I’m going to have to try some of this “soft shell” stuff… you don’t see much of it at the Army Surplus Store! 🙂

  49. Oscar Lam says:

heard about leaf about a year ago the gearlooks sound and like it could take some abuse
