SIG SAUER - Never Settle

Garmin fenix

Due very soon is the new Garmin fenix. It’s a first for Garmin. Imagine packing a Foretrex 401 into the size of a wristwatch. That’s a fenix. Granted, it doesn’t have ALL of the features of the Foretrex but it is a smaller form factor and it boasts a 50 hour battery life.

The fenix incorporates watch, altimeter, barometer, compass, temperature plot, high-sensitivity GPS receiver, and up to 50 hour battery life.

It features an LED backlight and is waterproof to 50 meters. With a battery life of up to 50 hours in GPS mode (depends on settings) the fenix will soldier on up to 6 weeks in watch mode. Basic watch functions include alarms, tones, vibration alerts, timer, stopwatch and world clock with the ability to display several times zones at once.

Additionally, you can create routes, record up to 1,000 waypoints (such as campsites or points of interest), and record GPS bread crumb trails on the move (tracklogs). It also uses Bluetooth technology to allow you to share data between fenix and other Garmin compatible devices.

Although the fenix is not yet in stock, we prefer to purchase our Garmin products from Marine Corps Veteran Owned Strohman Enterprise.

Will this watch have MGRS? I have been looking into getting one , but couldn’t find anything official from garmin on what datum it will carry.

    • Rooster2005 says:

The 401 model has MGRS for sure – I’m 99% sure I read somewhere the Fenix will have this ability as well.

  2. Matt says:

    Yes it will most def

  3. Matt says:

It carries all the same position formats and datums as all other Garmin devices

    • Peter C says:

Does that mean you can take a UK Ordinance Survey grid reference reading from it?

  4. Mark says:

So is it 20 or 50 hour battery life?

I just want to put in a good word for Strohman Ent. Joe is one of us (LEO/MIL ret.) and he takes care of his brothers and sisters in green and blue. I’ve bought ALOT of stuff from him over the last several years and his service and support are unbeatable. With as bad as the economy is and is going to get… I would rather spend my hard earned (and now going to be taxed more… Sorry for the political comment…) money buying gear from one of our brothers. Joe is a true patriot, war fighter and street cop!

Suunto Ambit is the answer, Garmin is awesome but the Suunto Ambit is already tracking all the above and more.

    • Paul says:

Michael, will the Ambit give you an MGRS grid ref?

      • bushman says:

Yes, it will. It’s denoted on page 26 of user manual.
But keeping in mind, that it’s training device, not navigator, its feature set could be sometimes barely comparable with Fenix.

        • Michael Pini says:

True , but with the Fused speed technology Suunto definitely has done its homework when it comes to GPS/and trekking.

  7. Is there any word on a price point yet?

  8. Vic Arvizu says:

$399 for the fenix compared to $499 for the Ambit

  9. Marlboroman says:

More importantly how accurate will the cords be?

    • Michael Pini says:

Suunto has Fusedspeed technology which is tracks your distance even with intermittent GPS signals and other issues that accompany other GPS devices.
