Thursday, July 13th, 2017

At the Strohman Enterprise booth we got to check out the new Garmin Foretrex 601 and 701 with Applied Ballistics LLC Engine, wrist mounted navigators. The 701 combines three capabilities in a single device.

-Applied Ballistics
-Garmin GPS Navigator

Additionally, they both use signals from GPS, GLONASS and Galileo satellite systems with simultaneous display of two coordinate systems. They also include a 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis compass and a barometric altimeter. The user can store up to 500 way point, 20 routes and 10,000 track log events.

With the 701, Applied Ballistics has implemented Sight Scale Factor, and the entire bullet library onboard. Everything can be done directly on the device. This device is also a part of the AB Connect System. So FW updates to this device will always contain the latest bullet library. The software has also demonstrated its accuracy for Extreme Long Range shooting, with solutions past 10,000.

What’s more, battery life in navigation mode exceeds 48 hours and lasts up to one week in UltraTrac mode and the backlight has an ultra low NVG mode.

The Foretrex 601/702 features a 2 inch display and weighs just 80 grams (2.8 ounces).

Finally, they’re offering Berry compliant loop bands. Other options include Quick Fit wrist bands.

Garmin tactix Bravo

Thursday, February 25th, 2016

The Garmin tactix Bravo is first and foremost a watch, and a good looking one at that. But that’s not all that’s going on with the tactix. It’s a GPS-enabled multi-sport training watch that offers some great features for militray and LE users. For instance, it processes both US GPS and Russian GLONASS signals meaning you’ve got a better shot at knowing where you are in a GPS-denied environment. Additionally, the tactix offers apps such as Jumpmaster which makes data all the more usable. Also, GPS features like track-back allow you to find your way back to a point of origin and the GPS data is augmented by altimeter, barometer and compass features.

Here are a few highlights:

2-inch high-resolution, sunlight-readable Garmin Chroma Display with high-strength domed sapphire lens, capable of switching between 2 modes: day use and night vision goggle compatibility
Omni-directional stainless steel EXO antenna, with GPS/GLONASS satellite reception, has the ability to track in more challenging environments
All-black, rugged and durable design inspired by the requirements of tactical gear intended for use in the field
Black PVD-coated stainless steel buttons, knurled start/stop button, rear case plate and screws
High-sensitivity GPS/GLONASS satellite reception has the ability to track in more challenging environments than GPS alone
Dual-mode operation optimizes the sunlight-readable display for day use or night vision goggle compatibility

The tactix is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. It can last up to 20 hours on a single charge in GPS training mode, 50 hours in Ultra-Trac mode and six weeks in watch mode. It features a PVD coated Black case with nylon strap or silicone band. Finally, there are lots of apps available for the tactix, with more coming all of the time.

For my friends interested in purchasing Garmin products, I always recommend Strohman Enterprise. They’ll take great care of you, offering preferred pricing to Law Enforcement, Military, and Government Customers.

Garmin has a couple of items that will be of interest to SSD readers.

First up is the tactix, a tactical training GPS watch. Sure, it’s a watch, but it’s also a GPS device that allows you to drop up to 10,000 breadcrumb points and 1,000 TracBack points meaning it vectors you to return to the point of origin. The tactix also offers barometric altimeter and electronic 3D compass. As a watch the battery lasts for 5 weeks, with sensors, you’re at 3 weeks. When you enable GPS, it goes to 50 hours. But, you can recharge via USB. Waterproof to 50m, night vision readable and integrates preloaded tidal data and Jumpmaster software.

Second is the VIRB Elite. It’s a GPS and wi-fi enabled HD action camera. The VIRB offers true HD at 1080p with a 16MP CMOS sensor. It also interfaces with an iOS or Android app that allows you to control it remotely. In addition to GPS stamp, you can also record barometer and G-load data.

Garmin – Vivofit Fitness Band

Thursday, May 29th, 2014

Garmin’s Vitofit is a fitness band that records steps taken, distance traveled, and calories burned combined with a watch into a single device. It learns the user’s current activity level, assigns an attainable daily goal, and wirelessly syncs with Garmin Connect to record progress. Also pairs with a heart rate monitor for fitness activities. The Vitofit is capable of continuous use for an entire year without a single battery change and is water resistant up to 50 meters.
