This video, shot in 1985, shows the state of the art, at the time, for the FBI’s Hostage Rescue Team. Equipment wise, this same gear was used by the point tip of the SOF spear as well.

This is very interesting! And I did not know that they used the HK 33 rifle.
During that time, there were a bunch of folks using the Hk33.
Nice post – a trip back in time. Lots of leather gear still. The USAF Survival knife sheaths stuck out like a sore thumb.
The one element that struck me was the limited use of MP5-SDs. When did the suppressor revoultion start? Wasn’t DEA clandestine lab teams using them at the same time?
Interesting how a lot has changed and some stuff hasn’t
Lulz
An M40 that shoots 1/4″ groups at 200M…
I was cooking breakfast, barely paying attention. Then I heard that in the background…ended up burning my eggs.
I wonder if my uncle worked with any of those guys…
I’m glad tactics changed since.
You’ve come a long way, baby.
Great soundtrack in the beginning of the video.
Who was that singing, Christopher Cross? Lol.
Holy F’ing lack of muzzle awareness at the beginning of the video.
What?? No helmets during the fast rope?? Muzzle awareness and reflective belts nowhere to be seen! Shocking!! Ha ha ha!!!
Yeah I was waiting for people to start gufawwing at their muzzle awareness.
All we need is for someone to scream about thumb-over-bore and it will be a wrap for the internet gun community.
Before ya hammer these guys too hard, remember that it was almost 30 years ago. Much has been learned since then.
Ummm, yeah… I’m gonna hammer them. All that was missing was the keystone cops music. These guys looked like SOI boots. And they still aren’t that good. They’re lack of muzzle awareness and target identification or consideration of background has caused more than s few “whoopsies” in their history. Basically there a bunch of gear queers. Who’s their daddy this month, CAG or DEV?
Love the ghilli suits.
