SureFire Sonic Defenders

Surefire-EarPro-Sonic-Defenders
I’m a big fan of SureFire’s Sonic Defenders and use them anytime I don’t require full over the ear protection. The secret patented Hocks Noise Braker filter that allows sounds, at safe levels, to pass through into the ear canal, while potentially harmful noises (above 85dB) are reduced. If you aren’t familiar with these ear plugs they are molded from a hypoallergenic polymer for left and right ears and are also sized for proper fit. They also feature a stopper which can be closed, offering a 24dB Noise Reduction Rating (NRR).

They’re great at music festivals too.

Would like to see a Military Operator actually do a review on this since communication in combat is vital and if you can’t hear what’s coming in too well it’s not good.

They are only $12-$15, perhaps you should give them a try yourself.

Not many people actually wear earpro in combat in my experience. Me saying “what?!” Every fifteen seconds is testament to that I think. Not much time to fiddle with earplugs, which will instantly get lost in the shuffle of more vital equipment. These are best in-ear plugs I’ve used, when I got the time to put them in. Good enough to hear a hand mic squawking at least. They have the little openings that let you hear easier if you’re just on the range or you leave them in. Like those crappy ones the army issues, the tan ones you know, the ones that threw away in frustration over bad fit in five minutes.

I was also dismounted on my last tour. Mechanized guys may have had a different experience. Fifteen bucks is worth it my opinion. If only for spending time on the range, when hearing loss can be mitigated more easily.

I’ve been running the EP7’s for about a year for the times I’m not using my Comtacs…like when it’s hot and humid at the range. The EP3’s don’t fit my ear canals correctly, so the EP7s foam tips are a Godsend. Had ’em almost a year, and other than ear funk on ’em, they look new and work like a champ.

I use these all the time. Best ear plugs ever. The only thing is that you have to be careful, they wear out after a while and lose their effectiveness. I just buy 2 sets at a time.
