Tactical Tailor – SBR First Look!

Tactical Tailor’s SBR bag is designed with non-permissive environments in mind as SOF operators find themselves required to work with a lower signature. The bag is ideal for those who might find themselves infil/exfiling from an urban hide, intelligence gathering, or travel in and out of sensitive areas where “guns up” may draw unnecessary attention. The Tactical Tailor SBR bag is also ideal for SWAT operators who find they are transitioning rapidly from surveillance to mobile assault team role. The Tactical Tailor SBR bag is Berry Amendment compliant and has already drawn praise from SOF units the world over.

The Tactical Tailor SBR bag is capable of holding a M-4 style rifle with a 10.5”. The bad will also accommodate a SCAR rifle with the butt stock collapsed. Additionally, a 16” barrel M-4 may be carried broken down. Feedback from down range is that if you carry the mag seated in the lower when it’s broken down, you’ll back in the shooting business rather quickly. Finally, the SBR bag interior is lined with loop so the user can configure the load out for the specific mission.

The rifle is accessed from the outside using a concealed panel that opens upward. Through Tactical Tailor’s T&E process they found that an upward open flap allows wearers to “fight off of each other’s back” and eliminates nylon flapping around if the user isn’t able to immediately ditch the pack.

The pack comes with a cover that will convert the bag from a backpack to luggage to protect straps and buckles during travel or storage.

There is room inside the pack for a helmet with NODs , snivel gear and chow. The bag will be available in several nontraditional colors (although the photos feature Kryptek Typhon) and is designed to appear as a traditional trekker’s pack. There are two water bottle pockets on the sides to keep your hydration handy and close attention has been paid to the small features such as pack stays and rubberized fabric trim to give it a civilian appearance.

The Tactical Tailor SBR bag is designed to work in conjunction with TT’s low vis Sling Bag, Low Vis Plate carriers and other minimalist/modular pouches and organizers.

The SBR Bag will Retail around $350.00 with production being completed by the end of June.

  1. defensor fortissimo says:

are there any plans for them making kryptek mainstream or will you have to place a specialized order?

    • GW says:

if there is enough customer demand for the pattern we will do a run in Kryptek. there are no curent plans to do that.

  2. CAVstrong says:

How come we are seeing more and more Kryptek and less and less of the other patterns?

  3. Matt says:

Im not so sure you would blend in to the majority of global non- permissive enviornments with that bag.

  4. JPate says:

Not really low profile, the bag looks huge.

  5. John says:

If someone wears that through Grand Central Station, they’re going to get stopped a dozen times. So much for low profile.

    • GW says:

      John,

Are the colors off? is the bag too military looking. It is hard too hide an 11 inch SBR in a daypack.

  6. GW says:

This bag is about the same length as the bags that you will find in REI that you see on the backs of travelers all over this country. It is not easy to hide an 11 inch SBR in a bag that does not say MIL/LE all over it. I really do not think we can get a solution that will make all the experts happy and still hide the gun.
I will say that this bag developed with the input of more than a few people that are “covert” everyday. Guys that NEED the capability. The pictures could be better. Once the first run is complete we will release a bunch of photos that will tell the story better.
Thanks for the intital thoughts on the product.

  7. Trajan says:

Wouldn’t a padded guitar or bass gig bag that was slightly enlarged around the body area (to accommodate a mag and aimpoint) work better for this? A huge bag isn’t exactly low profile unless you’re hiking.

    • KP says:

A fair number of “non permissive environments” are in places where you see back packers and adventure seekers.

If the “model” were wearing khaki shorts and a loose short sleeve with hiking boots, it’d look a lot more natural. Maybe throw in a mountain bike or something.

  8. Billy says:

Well…I think it is a pretty good idea, but, for non-permissive environs, it still seems to scream I’m a bad-a$$ and loaded for bear.

Here’s my idea for a SBR bag hidden in plain sight….

A 10.5″er fits nicely. And, you have “Wilson” to talk to when lonely.

  9. Billy says:

If you’re out in the boonies…who cares about permissive v. non-permissive? What I mean is… if you are in a non-permissive environment and need a SBR and a cool looking trekking pack, perhaps one’s orders/contract need to be slightly redefined.

It’s not like I want to go backpacking/trekking with a carbine any hows. If in Indian country, I’d likely carry what the Indians are usin’ or something a little better.
