Hill People Gear’s Heavy Recon Kit Bag is constructed from 500D nylon, and features FirstSpear’s 6/12 Pocket Attachment System externally and internally, which allows for full MOLLE/PALS and 6/12 pouch compatibility throughout the HRKB with a reduction in overall weight. The main compartment has dual slot pockets with dummy cord loops, and Velcro loop 6/12 fabric. The pistol compartment is fully lined with Velcro loop if the user wishes to set up the compartment for something other than pistol carriage. Both the pistol and main compartments have buttonhole style drain holes at the bottom.

Available in Coyote Brown, Foliage Grey/Green, and Ranger Green.

  1. I own one of the normal Recons in Multicam. It is not only very functional but its got one of the best back strap setups around. You don’t have to be a contortionist to reach the strap to buckle yourself in. I currently have mine set up for using a shotgun. The improvements to the heavy are very interesting and makes me want another Recon.

Kifaru has had something like this for years, believe it’s called the Koala…

    • Evan Hill says:

The Koala was a joint design, produced by Kifaru under a licensing agreement with me. My complete dissatisfaction with the final iteration of the Koala was a big factor in my decision to start HPG.

      • OpsBulldog says:

That’s cool to know…I thought it was designed by their guy “Mel” and then put into production by Patrick.

Funny what you learn over the years…Good luck to you and your team…

I’m presuming this the same grey that FS are using in a select few other items? Here’s hoping they’ll expand that offering in to other products.

    • Evan Hill says:

Yes, FS is our manufacturer and this is that same grey. We’ve long been fans of it as a good choice that blends well in the backcountry and doesn’t look out of place in an urban environment. For a long time, our products were about the only ones FS was producing in this color. The fact that they’re producing their proprietary 6/12 fabric in this color is evidence that the worm has turned.

  4. Fear the SKULL !!!!! Fear it !!!

    Keep doing it HPG !!!

    NOW I’LL NEVER GET ONE!

Jokes aside, I’m glad everyone knows. These kit bags are flippin’ awesome and one of the best ways to carry a concealed pistol in the woods with a pack.

I’ve got either the running kit or recon on my wishlist for when I go out running.

These things look pretty amazing. Can’t wait to order mine. Now I just have to decide which one I want.

    • mike says:

Careful. If you wait too long the SSD-effect will make everything sold out!

      • Brian says:

All I have to do is pull together the money. Recon kit here I come.

These things have been popular for a longa time, although that might have something to do with the SSD effect.

Damnit Luke! Just finished sewing Velcro on the inside of my recently purchased recon. This new version looks f’in awesome. I feel a persistent itch in my wallet all of a sudden.
HPG stuff is well designed and bombproof. And their customer service is uber-pro.

Neat… it looks like a fanny pack.. for your chest.

Really diggin the under the pouch knife sheath. I’d like to see that on a messenger bag some day, possibly with a velcro flap that would cover the blade when in the city.

i’ve got their runner bag, been using it all summer and love it.

I might have to pick on of these up for more cargo space for hiking/atv riding. My pisol usually gets pretty muddy being on a belt holster while riding ( its a glock, its fine 😉 )buti think that’ll work nice

I used a Recon Kit with the Runner’s Harness and the Tarahumara Pack at the Spartan Beast in VT last month. It was great. VERY comfortable and easy access to food on the move. Even swimming the lake was easy. I can’t recommend these enough.

  12. Luke says:

I love how this gives molle options without looking like you’re wearing a chest rig. I’ve had an Original KB for a few years now, and I can’t decide if this or the larger Snubby will be my second one.
