Beautiful. Elegant. Thoughtful.
While a hoard of trash-talkers is no doubt inbound, I find this to be tasteful and forward-thinking. Integrating the rear irons is perfect and the wide field of view is refreshing. The fact that it can handle the recoil of .458 SOCOM is impressive and should (but won’t) silence the “but it’ll shake itself apart on a slide!” crowd.
Still an emerging technology. The probability is that the beating the sight takes WILL kill it.
The solution is 50% change in the platform (I continue to think there’s a frame mount solution that protects the sight without interfering with the operation of the weapon), 50% in hardening the sight that will benefit the larger shooting community.
Some of the scorn directed at these early adopters is about gadgetry, some is rooted in jealousy that they’re able to allocate funds for RDS-equipped guns.
RDS on rifles (also once thought to be the height of gadgeteer folly) is proof that RDS doesn’t make you a better shooter, just a faster one. In the brutal reality of fighting with a pistol, time is absolutely life.
As if on cue…
this would also pair fantastically with a number of the frame-mounted platforms out there. It still looks pretty sexy directly on the slide, and I still think it’s going to do just fine on a 9mm-45ACP pistol’s slide.
