Get a Load of This – Perceived Carry Decoys

The Year Is Still Young But This Might Be The Worst Business concept of 2015. Virginia Beach-based Perceived Carry Decoys claims that “perception is reality.” In a nutshell, PCD sells fake guns.

From their website:

WHO ARE PCD DEVICES FOR?
-These devices are for those who wish to feel protected but do not want the hassle of owning an actual firearm
-PCD’s require no background check or permit since they are not actual firearms
-Store doesn’t have your favorite ammunition in stock?
-Want to wear in a parking lot and stow away in purse once you’ve reached your destination and not fear a discharge?
-Don’t want the fear of young children finding a loaded weapon by mistake?
-Give your unarmed security staff a more authoritative presence
Shop owners concerned about robbery
-Know someone who could benefit from carrying a handgun, but aren’t safety conscious?
-Don’t want to be approached by a criminal element?

As you can see, the uses and possibilities are endless.

Don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on something that may not be used? The all in one piece construction of these devices addresses all of these hurdles while still allowing for the benefits of open carry.

To their credit, they warm potential customers that their products aren’t for Home Protection, Law Enforcement Situations or Self Defense. But this is just a bad idea all around.

That company will go down the second there is an accidental shooting of an “unarmed” citizen or, heaven forbid, a child. All because they are making a product to literally imitate a firearm. Painted childrens’ toys get people killed all the time, why should this be viewed as any different.

  2. mike says:

I think this has “brandishing” written all over it and while I’m all for someone getting into the market I wish this wasn’t from my hometown :/

  3. Doc K says:

What an excellent way to get shot. Haven’t they seen the video footage of crooks confronted with real firearms? It’s not the sight of the firearm they run from…

  4. Dellis says:

Hey SSD, a little early for April Fools don’t ya think?

  5. Russ says:

There is no cure for stupid.

  6. PNW_Tree_Octopus says:

Well this wins the centennial award for “dumb, useless items that can get you killed”

  7. Jim says:

Hey, wait a minute maybe we could sew fake holsters, fake backpacks and fake harnesses! Then we could get a big contract to outfit a fake army and scare away our country’s enemies! Sadly while I joke, I am sure someone has proposed this in Washington….

  8. Gunslinger6 says:

Worst idea ever. “Never go full retard”

  9. Eric says:

How could this get by any company’s legal or liability insurance is beyond me. This is an ambulance chaser’s wet dream for wrongful death or liability from injury. This little tidbit “Give your unarmed security staff a more authoritative presence” could be a criminal liability issue in some places. If the security guard gets shot because they have no way to defend themselves with company supplied “safety” equipment, it wouldn’t end well for the business owner that supplied this.

The case for someone carrying a toy gun for the same purpose would be tougher to prove for the company that made it to be liable since it was sold as a toy. A company selling replicas to “create a perception of a real firearm” for defensive or security purpose is silly. It didn’t work for Vinny and Sol, since “Desert Eagle .50” trumps “Replica”.

Is Joe Biden one of the inventors? I agree, this is one of the worst business concepts of the year.

    • straps says:

I feel bad for any security or loss control person whose boss gets bit by this G.I.F.

  10. Nate says:

    1. Does the Walther or SIG Decoy cost more than the Beretta decoy? Why would you have different guns?

    2. Can’t you still get in trouble for brandishing if the gun isn’t real? So if someone else sees the decoy can’t I still be arrested?

  11. J.H.S says:

Well the “Christ is the head of this house” label should have tipped me off that something was going to be interesting here!

  12. Weaver says:

Stunningly bad idea – all the downsides of open carry with none of the possible benefits.

  13. Wow….I didn’t think it was possible for people to come up with even more stupid gun related ideas.

  14. Frtizthedog says:

    You folks don’t get it!
With the proper training in how to yell the word “BANG!” this will surely succeed…

  15. pseudonym says:

The “gun” can’t even be drawn from the “holster”… LOL

The website says, “Safe one piece construction, device does not come out of holster”

If you need a laugh, their facebook page may have what your looking for.

  16. jbgleason says:

I am just certain that this will show up somehow, some way in the Anti-Gunner’s Agenda and it will be blamed on this industry.

  17. Mick says:

If you read their website, the fake guns cannot be removed from the holsters. So there’s nothing to point at a badguy… except for the whole thing in a holster, I guess, which could result in bad guy laughing at you, giving an opening…

  18. tictac says:

All I have to say is ….Shazam.

  19. Taylor says:

Reminds me of the scene in Snatch where they use replica guns, with extra loud blanks.

  20. Eric says:

No fucking way. What a tremendously horrible idea.

  21. Toby says:

WTF?! There is nothing good that comes from this. Nothing. Hate to rain on this company’s product but there is no where to go but down down down.

  24. balais says:

This is not helping me re-establish my faith in humanity. Not helping at all.

  25. Chuck Mac says:

SSD just called out a company’s “bad idea”. I wish SSD would say that about more of the “products” that appear on this blog. Wasted energy, poor use of money and plenty of “bad ideas” out there.

  26. Evilnadman says:

I think Will Ferrell’s wooden gun from the movie “The Other Guys” would be just as good as an deterent as these. Really WTF!

  27. Hangar3 says:

I wonder if these are on the CA safe list ??? LOL

  28. Ed says:

Are these any better than a finger point from within the handwarmer pocket of a hoodie?

  29. David says:

Quick browse of their facebook page shows they “liked” the “coalition to stop gun violence.” 5 second consideration of the proposed reasoning behind the product……..

So, yea, um, Pat I’ll take metric ass ton of douchebaggery + imperial ass ton of stupid for $1000.

  30. kenny says:

it comes with a rubber knife, plastic brass knuckles, jelly numchucks, and a first alert button that says – “I’m shot and I can’t get up”

  31. Jon says:

  32. Savannah Boar Hunter says:

“If you find yourself in a life threatening situation, first seek safety, then dial 911 as you should when carrying a real firearm.”

    HAhahahaha, oh man, I’m crying.
