SHOT Show – Standard Manufacturing

DSC05392

Following in the footsteps of Kel-Tec and UTAS, Standard Manufacturing has developed their own bullpup pump action shotgun with dual magazine tubes, however unlike the former two shotguns which feature a single barrel that feeds from two tubes, the DP-12 features double barrels. Two shells are chambered with each pump, and the trigger must be pulled twice to fire both barrels. Each tube is capable of holding 7 2 3/4″ shells, for a total capacity of 14+2. The DP-12 is machined from a solid billet of aircraft grade 7075 aluminum, and it features a spring loaded recoil pad.

  1. It is an interesting concept. I did get to shoot it at Media Day. You can get off two shots really quickly and the pump action was fairly smooth. The shotgun itself is heavy weighing about 9 lbs which helps minimize the felt recoil.

I still think it is kind of a gimmick. Given the cost (+/- $1500), I’d rather a slicked up Remington 870.

For 1500 I can tacti-cool most pump actions, or buy a Benelli.

My first thought was “sounds heavy” guess I was right. I’m sure they will sell a few, sounds like they know their target market.

I handled one and I really liked it. The DP12, the Surefire AAA pistol light, the Spyderco prototypes, and the new ARX round were the highlights of SHOT for me.

The biggest benefit I saw over the KSG is that the shells feed straight into the chamber of each barrel, rather than feeding in diagonally. I think that will make it inherently more reliable.

As for the double barrel, I think that allows it to really split the difference between pump and semi. You get a rapid follow up shot ala Semi, with the ability to cycle low powered ammo like a pump. All in a package that’s under 30″ long.

It’s also got that Colonial Marines aesthetic which I’m a sucker for.
