I Darley Defense Days – Hydrapak – Collapsible Canteen

For 15 years, Hydrapak has provided hydration systems to popular brands such as LBT, tactical tailor, MMI, TacProGear, and many more. The unique construction of their bladders allows them to be turned inside-out, to facilitate easier cleaning.

Recently, they’ve came out with a line of collapsible canteens in two models: the Stash and Softflask.

The Stash comes in 3/4 liter and 1 liter sizes. It’s collapsible design offers the advantage of a reduced footprint over traditional canteens systems, which maintain the same volume either empty or full.

Here’s a photo of a willing volunteer placing his full weight on a 3/4 Stash bottle.

The Softflask comes in 1/2 liter and 3/4 liter sizes.

The SplashGuard is a new product which inserts into wide mouth bottles, concentrating flow and protecting from splashback.

Hydrapak’s line of collapsible canteens are currently available at all base exchanges. However, as a special offer to SSD readers, now through June 15th take advantage of a special 50% off discount through the Hydrapak online store – use coupon code TACTICALUSER2015! to apply the discount.

Had a Softflask in a ruck (60ish lbs) and tossed it in a truck and the pressure caused the bottle to leak. I filled the softflask back up and it never leaked again. I also carried the soft flask in a cargo pocket to allow for body heat to keep the water from freezing and it worked great. Spent a week in the field on the DMZ in January and always had some water to drink thanks to the hydrapak softflask.

Hey Chief – I’m glad you’re staying hydrated. Let me know how else I can help.

The shipping is a little high for the weight but I took advantage and ordered two Stash and two softflask. I’m a little bummed the 1 liter Stash isn’t showing on their web site though. Thanks SSD!

    • Tracey Brown says:

No doubt that there is not much weight on these things. One of the best features. Sorry about the freight charge, but glad that you’re staying hydrated!

This thing is seriously awesome. I fill one up with perpetum and throw it in a dump pouch during infils. After I’m done it folds up and gets stashed out of the way. If it doesn’t leak after being trashed in AFG, that is plenty good enough for me.

    • Tracey Brown says:

Hey Will. So glad to read your comment. They are seriously awesome – I agree!

  4. Brett says:

Love these! As you drink out of them you can collapse them down so that the water doesn’t slosh. They are extremely durable as well.

    • Tracey Brown says:

Hey Brett – being able to collapse and reduce weight and bulk – YES!

  5. I like my Vapuur bottle but might have to try this.

I have dropped an 80lbs pack on my 3L Firstwave Tactical bladder more than once and have found my Tactical Softflask under piles of tools and gear in my trunk a number of times they live up to the durable/toughness claim. The bladder has a great lock system on the mouth piece, the mouthpiece itself is easy to drink from without chewing on it , and the hose is covered in a coating that is tan so it’s not obnoxious and probably gives it a bit of insulation. The quick-disconnect on the hose makes it easy to fill and pack the sleeve without dragging the mouth piece in the dirt and you can keep the tube worked into your chest rig/carrier/pack. I’ve even used it as a pillow a few times!
