Stuff I Like – Kuhl Strand Cap

Generally, if you see me wearing a hat, it’s a Kuhl Strand Cap modified with a Velcro pile patch embroidered with the SSD logo. I really like the fit of this runner-style cap which accommodates earpro quite nicely. Additionally, it’s easy to tighten the fit of the cap during high winds thanks to the cam buckle.

I’ve been wearing Kuhl caps for many years and they come in several models including the Strand, Uberkuhl, softshell Renegade and new Renegade. Kuhl alos offers Women’s models. They are available in a variety of colors which change through the seasons so you’ll need to check their site for availability.

    Hoping you make that velcro available through TD or another partner, I’d add it to my Uberkuhl in a heartbeat.

      Unfortunately, the hats were cost prohibitive. We did around 60 and gave them out a few years ago.

          We just need SSD to make a small branding iron with the logo, and then you can just melt the logo into any Velcro you want.

      Fashion only. Obviously no load-bearing capabilities. I though most people who have used cobra buckle belts would be pretty disappointed, but they sold through pretty well.

    I love their hats and wear an olive Strand cap most days. I’ve turned the loop inside out so there’s not the little hangy bit on the adjustment, but I’d wear them even if I couldn’t. I wasn’t paying attention and smacked into the corner of a poorly placed airconditioning unit and gashed my head open. There wasn’t even a mark on the hat after I got the blood out; I maintain that my head armor was why I didn’t have to make an emergency trip.

    Love the tape on the VLTOR. I’ve heard they tug at beards. I don’t have a beard to verify this, but electrical tape seems like a good solution

    I’m going to look for a Uberkuhl next time I’m at REI. If it fits like I think it will this is the cap I’ve been looking for. Thanks for the head’s up.

    I LOVE this hat. The material stretches slightly, so it is almost as if it has a custom fit. I wish that there was a better way to manage the extra material for the hat size adjuster.
