Mystery Ranch – RFAK Is Now Available

If you’re like me, you’re asking yourself, “what is in RFAK?” Turns out, the answer is simpler than I thought.

The new Removable First Aid Kit (RFAK) replaces the MR IFAK and was created at the request of a rather well known guy out of Camp Lejeuene.  It’s named Removable because it incorporates an insert which holds the medical items and can be removed from the pouch.

Inside the RFAK, the medical contents are contained in an expandable bundle with elastic webbing and held to the pouch with velcro. The outside container is essentially a durable shell for the contents. A pull of the handle allows quick, one-handed access to all the contents. This allows for easier and quicker self-aid or handing off to a buddy.

Available Coyote, OD and MultiCam, the RFAK is available from www.mysteryranch.com/RFAK.

I thought the days of giant football IFAKs were behind us? This thing looks gigantic

I thought the days of carrying too little med gear to actually treat someone were behind us.

      It’s actually not that big.

The term “IFAK” gets thrown around a lot, but like anything else it scales based on the mission. In my briefcase/manbag (every day carry) I carry just the bare essentials (TQ+pressure bandage) because of limited space and relatively low threat. Obviously for specific missions or scenarios where the likelihood of being stuck without access to better echelons of care and in cases where the risk of something happening is much greater, I’ll carry a more comprehensive kit.

That’s all to say that I wouldn’t consider the RFAK a “low profile” kit but it certainly doesn’t look that big and looks like a good in-between the bag you’ll keep in the vehicles and the gear you keep stuffed in your pocket.

It always struck me as odd their old ifak didn’t have a removable insert. Ordering one of these today to replace my old ifak

The removable IFAK concept is like that from the BFG Trauma Kit NOW. That’s what I use.

What do you think of it? I’m about to take a rifle class while wearing mine on my kit for the first time. Fully expecting stuff to go flying due to the weak-a$$ velcro closure.
