Got my grubby little mitts on an Aegis buckle leather belt from Mean Gene the other day. Oozes quality and workmanship. I imagine this is no different. Great company, great products.
Shout out to OPTactical as well; great company and dispatched immediately.
Thanks Dev, glad the belt is working out for you. (Chris from O P Tactical)
My hangup on the burrito is if I’m OWB I’m gonna want my holster and mag carrier to match more than just “they’re brown” especially if I’m going with any of the more niche exotic variants shown of late.
One of my few regrets is getting my shark holster through Wilson combat because I doubt they’ll release a holster for another double stack I could switch my mag carrier for my Berretta with instead of buying another holster and mag combo.
Got my burritos late last week – they’re as nice looking as the pictures. Perfectly matches my Mean Gene belt. Haven’t used them extensively, but Sig .40 and Glock 9mm fit well. I was a bit surprised how stiff the springs are; probably a good thing for retention in the long haul but surprising when you first try it out.
I just checked out Mean Gene’s website and perhaps someone can answer a couple of questions regarding his products:
Is the Aegis buckle a modern version of the old military roller dress buckle?
Are the Burrito mag pouches much “thicker” than standard leather magazines pouches?
I can’t speak for the mag pouches, but yeah the Aegis buckle is pretty much a more robust and slightly larger version of the aforementioned buckle. The locking bar tightens its “grip” when the belt goes the “opposite” way and it’s very very solid. I actually chipped a bit off the floor tiles when I accidentally dropped the belt the other day without leaving any marks on the buckle itself.
The buckle is actually made by Ares Gear for Mean Gene.
Thank you.
I wish I’d got one of the ‘skeletonised’ ones when they were still in stock!
Yes on the buckle. Unsure on the burrito as I have yet to lay hands on one.
Got my first burrito last week, more coming soon. They are good kit, primarily because you can stuff a lot more than just the mag that your Kydex is built for into them. TQs, any pistol mag, multi tools, garand clips, lights, etc. They are slightly bulkier than equivilent products, but I give them that because of the increased utility. They are also the only kit I own anymore that I have to slide on a belt. Speaking of which, the loops is a tad tight when you get them, but they work fine on every 1.5″ belt I’ve tried.
They are bulkier than kydex. I carry AIWB so I don’t see myself using them for CC purposes. However they hold CZ Scorpion mags, BX-25 mags, so they have a lot of utility. Just not summer time concealed carry for me.
