Wiebad – Kestrel Pouch

Wiebad has introduced a Kestrel pouch. It’s a simple design, with a webbing loop at the rear for belt mounting and a Velcro closure on the flap as well as a 550 loop at the side to tie it down. Wiebad says they’ll introduce a PALS version if there’s enough interest.  Offered in a wide variety of colors/patterns.

Man- what luck! My TL just chartered me with finding the best kestrel pouch for our 4 man team. We don’t have kestrel’s yet, but wanted to make sure the two vests we share have enough molle real estate for these. We have a Remington 700 for sniper ops.

I’ve been looking for a decent kestrel pouch myself as every guy on our team is issued one and is a mandatory carry item, on all ops…the 700 is a good platform…what scopes you guys runnin Horshack?

we just use iron sights bro. We don’t have the funding for good glass. We haven’t had to shoot anyone yet but we’ve got the 700 zeroed at 50 yards. That seems to be about as far as my TL and ATL can see without their bifocals and make that tough shot into a perp

That’s sux not having glass, we actually changed our zero and our monthly qual to 50 yds as well. We found that a lot of guys were having a tough time qualing at 100, but once we changed to the 50 almost everyone quals within their first 2 attempts. The other advantage to this distance is it allows you take a head shot. Once you guys get your kestrels you will really see a difference in how effective your snipers can be. Let me know how it goes!

Bro- you guys sound like you got your sh*t together! Where do you attach the kestrel to the gun? We like to rock all our hardware up close on our one patrol rifle. Can’t wait to get to the range again in October to shoot the 700. We wanna be prepared but don’t think we can pull off head shots at 50 yet bro!

  6. Horshack says:

Do you guys rock a Remington 700 too, bro?

  7. GoldOper8tor says:

We actually transitioned to the Springfield patriot .30-06 tricked out in synthetic black…runs $349 so not that cheap. We don’t have out kestrels mounted to our guns, but one of the guys actually had a good idea recently and was gonna just zip tie it to the barrel so you can reference it while proned out.

I would suggest mounting a bipod upside down, in a V versus an A shape, and zip-tying the kestrel to it; that way you can still get accurate wind readings from the wind speed sensor. If you have 45° rails you can mount the now-upside-down bipod so it does not obstruct your view looking down the sights. I personally don’t, that extra second to flip the kestrel+bipod combo back down won’t affect my shot anyways.

I love the way my brothers solve problems! My TL and ATL always have great ideas how to better clear rooms. Since we only have one patrol rifle, my TL usually let’s me crash the door and carry the enforcer. That way, if someone is right at the door I can just hit them with the ram and then he can shoot them. We’ve only hit 6 houses in the last two years and usually the perp is asleep or passed out drunk. My TL says we should strong wall but we probably won’t do that until our sniper section is fully stood up.
