Kickstarter – Firefly Firestarter Upgrade For Swiss Army Knife

IMG_4520

Currently running on Kickstarter, Firefly replaces the toothpick insert on your Swiss Army Knife with a firestarter. It features a bright neon yellow-green, glow-in-the-dark thumbnail grip.

Available in two lengths, they’ve tailored the sparking material mix to double the break strength of a typical ferrocerrium/firesteel mix. You can use any of the tools on the knife to strike a spark with the Firefly.

I don’t use Swiss Army knives anymore, but this is brilliant.

Looks like fantastic addition to regular Victorynox. Looks bit thin and fragile though. I wonder how they would hold up.

Just started carrying a mini SAK as my key ring. This’ll be a hell of a lot more useful than those weak little plastic picks.

I love seeing those simple “I wish I thought of that” moments

  5. Jesse says:

    Damn…..that’s a solid idea.

I’m in. Between me and my kids, there are about 7 SAKs at our house. I can whittle a toothpick, or, use the awl… 🙂

that item will not work well and not durable as it is to small, the slot in the scales do not allow the needed thickness of the firestarter rod! depending on how it is used it will break.

Wow fritz bou… way to slander a product you know nothing about. I actually went to the page to check it out and it says that they’ve been able to “tailor the sparking material mix to double the break strength of a typical ferrocerrium/firesteel mix”. Not only that but it shows them starting all kinds of stuff in their video with one so they’ve obviously gotten it to work. Even just a handful of fire starts is good enough for me to want one. Cut them some slack, I think this is a great idea and I’m anxious to get mine, I backed it.
