FirstSpear Friday Focus – MultiCam Squadron Smock

This week, FirstSpear is giving you first shot at their new FS Squadron Smocks in MultiCam, featuring USA Merino Wool. These are available for a short time, in limited sizing, while supplies last. Updated with FS ACM-MID400 through the torso the Squadron Smock is in a league of its own. Fully loaded with features and pockets and a loose overall fit to accommodate additional layers.

The Squadron Smock is a hybrid garment that depending upon your circumstances can be a uniform top, a weather barrier, or even hasty load carriage.

An oversized hood will fit over your helmet with most NVGs attached and an easily adjusted stiffener in the bill will help keep the shape.

I am confused, catalog pictures show different smocks – without chest Napoleon zippered pockets and with this zippers. Did they change the design?

Stepan the only major change with the new smock is it is now wool lined, all the pockets stayed the same.

There is only an internal napoleon zipper access to the inside of the smock (hidden under the storm flap). The previous version had zippers that allowed access to the outside chest pockets.

I have a Ranger Green version. No zippers on the outside chest pockets.

I was a little sad the zippers were removed in the new design, but the smock is awesome. A great addition to the Windcheater. I will be removing the wire brim, and adding a HPG coyote ruff to this smock ASAP.

How heavy/light is this jacket? Light like a shell or is it heavier like a field jacket?

I really want the whole Anorak/Windcheater/Smock set. I’ve been very very impressed with my Windcheater so far, definitely interested in the quality of some of their performance merino blends also.
