Lots of folks are starting to talk 8.6 Creedmoor (although I think it should be called 8.6 Blackout) and that it is really just 338 Federal, renamed. Kit Badger is all over this and has produced this video to discuss the issue.

It isn’t a renamed .338 Federal any more than .224 Valkyrie is a renamed .223 Remington.
The ability to use longer projectiles is an obvious and big advantage, whether subsonic or supersonic.
Where can we even find 8.6 Creedmoor barrels right now?
As far as I know, Q is cutting them one at a time. They are still doing R&D to find the best twist rate for the new cartridge.
