A U.S. Marine died late 2006 from a gunshot wound during an urban combat training accident. The Marine responsible was an experienced, well-trained Sergeant. The next day all of Camp Pendleton was briefed about the incident. This brief however, did not solve the design flaw that allowed live ammunition to become commingled with blank ammunition.
The Army and Marines have lost approximately 10 Service Members from negligent discharges since 2002, one just recently at Fort Polk last October, and hundreds more have been injured. This begged the question, “Why is there not a separate magazine for non-lethal ammunition for when Soldiers train?” That is where the Safe Tactical Magazine idea was born and is what drives SafeTacMag, LLC today.
SafeTacMag, LLC has now developed an innovative, yet simple, M16/M4 5.56 Blue Force on Force Training Magazine designed specifically to protect lives, prevent injuries, and save the government hundreds of millions of dollars by preventing accidental discharges of live ammunition during military and police force on force training exercises. Unlike conventional magazines, which accept both live and force on force ammunition interchangeably, SafeTacMag’s unique and patented training magazine is specifically designed for non-lethal rounds, thereby preventing accidental and negligent discharges of live ammunition.

Not sure what this solves that already-existing transparant mags already solved.
Transparent mags suck. And these prevent the loading of live ammo
Looks like “short range” ammo can still be loaded into these, which is still deadly
Great idea. It shouldn’t ever even be an issue, but even well trained people screw up. This should hopefully help with the “lapse of reason” moments.
Also, it looks like Hexmag actually manufactures the polymer one for SafeTacMag.
We’ve been using dedicated simm mags for at least a decade for 5.56 simms. I guess it’s a less saturated market than regular AR mags, good luck…
I’m kind of surprised they actually got a patent on this. Perhaps because it is aimed at sims and not blank rounds?
HK have offered a blank firing mag which doesn’t allow live rounds to fit into it for at least ten years. Originally a UK MOD contract for the L85. Uses a bright yellow steel mag.
With the L85 it also has a blank firing adaptor which can stop a live round as well. Whole setup is called the safe blank firing system.
I’d be surprised if they haven’t offered it for sale in the US at all (it works with the 416 and C8 as well as the L85).
I think the point of these is that you can still use Sim/UTM rounds which you can not do with the HK system you are talking about to my knowledge.
Great product.
DLA has 7K of these on the shelf, so for the few actual DOD folks who read SSD, use the NSN and get them ordered for your unit’s training density. CTC (JRTC, JMRC, NTC) rotation, Intensive Training Cycle, etc.
•NSN: 1005-01-652-0720
If you don’t want to wait on the NSN process, use a MIPR and get them ordered quickly through DLA (find a prime vendor to help you).
Hey Attack7,
Thanks for spreading the great info. This is actually the owner of SafeTacMag. Could you email me at sales@safetacmag.com. or call the office. I would talk with you about our product. Thanks. Matt H
