2020 ADS Ft Bragg Warfighter Expo – Sidewinder Boot by Streamlight

Streamlight has introduced a new variant of their popular Sidewinder called the Boot. It was designed for use by US Marine Corps recruits during Boot Camp, hence the name.

Here, you can see the new Sidewinder Boot to the right of the original Sidewinder.

At just 3.52 oz, this hands-free angle-head flashlight features a 185 deg adjustable head and a permanently attached slide-in Red filter. It offers 55 lumens for 8 hours on the high setting via two AA batteries and features IPX7 waterproofing as well as a spring-steel clip to attach to clothing, equipment, or helmet.

I can’t decide if I hate this or not

I am hesitantly interested in this light.

I was a fan of the original AA Sidewinder, as well as the CR123 Compact II.

However, both of them failed from the same faulty design/defect, wherein the light’s activation button circuitry would break, during normal use.

Hopefully, this newer design’s switch mechanism has remedied that problem.

I would like to see an improved Compact model.

I just want the compact II to start incorporating a tailcap lockout. Do that and those things are damn near perfect.

Ok canadian military here, why do you need this for USMC boot camp?

    • Gear Guy says:

Marine Recruits are issued an old school angle head flashlight and this should be the replacement for it.

    • SSD says:

It’s a flashlight. The US military does things at night.

    • Canadian says:

It is quite obvious why you need a flashlight, we (Canada) have them too. Give your head a shake.

Obviously the US Army wouldn’t understand a light that has been issued in the hundreds of thousands (100K’s) for over 12 year…… OORAH !!!! Great to see the Moonbeam has been updated.
