SafeLife Defense Celebrates 5th Anniversary

Nevada-based armor manufacturer SafeLife Defense, a small business that began in its founder’s kitchen, is celebrating its 5th anniversary. The company, which was recently named one of the top 300 fastest-growing companies in America, recently announced a number of specials to celebrate the anniversary and growth.

Says founder Nick Groat,

“I want to start by thanking you for showing interest in our Body Armor. As I’m sure you have seen, there are a lot of choices out there when it comes to armor…and they are not all created equal.”

The company claims to be the fastest-growing armor company in the United States because, as they say, “We do body armor better than anyone else!”

They continue:

• Our vests offer the best protection at the best price.
• We have a 5 Year Warranty on our Ballistic Material.
• We offer FREE Size Exchanges for 30 Days, so your gear fits PERFECTLY.
• When you contact us, our Award-Winning Customer Service will help you.
• If you are ever shot, we will replace your armor for FREE under our Incident Guarantee.
• If you don’t love your gear, send it back for a refund under our Satisfaction Guarantee.

The company is currently moving into a new 140,000 square foot facility near the Las Vegas Raiders practice facility in Henderson, NV, and intends to add nearly 400 jobs over the next ten years.

Aren’t these guys famous for selling insanely thick Chinesuim armor that doesn’t even meet NIJ standards? They’re not even on the Criminal Justice Testing & Evaluation Consortium Compliant Product List.

    • Cold Steam says:

Yes, their stuff is made in China with Japanese materials, which is certainly inferior (but cheaper). They now have certification, but for the longest time they didn’t.

Sponsoring the right influencers go a long way in this industry

      • Dang, if true what are the 400 other people gonna do?

        • Cold Steam says:

“Yes we process some of our soft armor in China with materials from Japan. I make our products where we can provide the best performance. In this case being processed in our proprietary way in China is far more protective (and cost effective) than here in the US.”

“I routinely visit our overseas factory and its a pretty great place. Its always the same faces, everyone is happy and they are all paid well. China is capable of making great things with the right people. Just check out your Iphone or android. They cant design worth a damn. But they can make exactly what you tell them too beautifully.”

If you get past the pretty words and the marketing, it still is inferior. Objectively the materials they use simply aren’t as good, thicker, heavier. That’s the problem with the “made in china route”, at least in the realm of body armour.

“Works well under direct supervision”, ultimate bullet point

I never understood where the hate on SLD came from. Ive personally been to their Las Vegas factory and have seen this armor made first hand. It may be a little heavier than other armor but it also defends against stabs, tasers, strikes and special threats. Some of the videos people have made on the armor are insane. They are also on the NIJ Certified list.
