Did the Tron Tanker Helmet Inspire the Crye AirFrame?

A friend sent me this photo* and now I can’t unsee it.

Although barely seen in the 1982 movie “Tron” the tank program’s helmet is of a two-piece design, similar to the Crye Precision AirFrame.

*The image appears to originate on theRPF.com, a forum dedicated to movie prop collectors and makers. User Lindy put a lot into making this reproduction.

It might just be a case of synchronicity, or great mind thinking alike…

In a similar vein, I’ve always thought the Army Air Crew helmets for mandible protection look a lot like Stormtrooper helmets.

Just like how the rebel’s camouflage from Star Wars greatly resembles the A-TACS, human ingenuity is sometimes linked beyond the time and generations. Almost all of our ideas were once tried, or at least designed in the past. History sometimes repeats in great way, not always in the bad way.

    Great find.

The Star Wars X-Wing Pilot Helmet was actually based on the Gentex APH-6B.
