On social media the Army has been sharing this teaser…
With a promise of an activation on 16 August 2026, the video offers this insignia.

This is the insignia of the 551st Parachute Infantry Regiment who boast a nickname of GOYA for “Get Off Your Ass.”
The question is, which Division will absorb this Regiment? Originally stood up as an independent Airborne Battalion at the beginning of the war and stationed in Panama, members of the unit eventually fought in World War II in Italy and the invasion of Western Europe but absorbed into the 82nd Airborne Division after the Battle of the Bulge.
Or, are we going to get another Separate Brigade in Panama? The 193rd Infantry Brigade, which long served in Panama and had an embedded Airborne Battalion, is now a Training Brigade at Fort Jackson.

My guess, 4ID. As 3/4 ID converts from ABCT to SBCT its shedding its “Iron Brigade” Identity and adopting a new, as of yet unannoucned identity. That timing seems to be inline too.
It is the 551st FOR who liberated my town Draguignan on August 16, 1944 during Operation Dragoon in Provence.
It’s a pleasure to see him reborn!
GOYA !!!
My grandfather was a Platoon Commander in Alpha Company, 551st PIB. Always loved his stories of the Battle of the Bulge. He didn’t hold anything back about what happened. One day, I would like to make it over to Graguignan and walk the battlefield that he spilled his blood on in remembrance of him and the others who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.
If I recall correctly what I read a few months back, the 551st PIR will be the lineage of the Multi Functional Reconnaissance Companies of the 82nd Abn Div, 173rd Abn Bde and 2nd MBCT (Abn), 11the Abn Div
My grandfather’s unit! The family members are proud and glad to see the honor of their resurrection…just wish that they were going to be on jump status.
Palm tree logos huh…
