Australian Defence Force Selects Team Wendy Exfil Ballistic Helmet

AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCE SELECTS TEAM WENDY EXFIL BALLISTIC HELMET
Tiered Combat Helmet Contract awarded to Aquaterro APS

Ballistic 5

CLEVELAND – Team Wendy announces that its EXFIL Ballistic Helmet has been selected by the Australian Defence Force (ADF) as Tiered Combat Helmet (TCH) of record (Tiers 2 and 3) for the Soldier Combat Ensemble (SCE). The five-year contract with two additional 2 year options was awarded to Team Wendy’s partner in Australia, Aquaterro APS.

The EXFIL Ballistic is the third model in the Team Wendy EXFIL line, following two popular non-ballistic tactical bump helmets: Carbon (released in 2012) and LTP (Lightweight Tactical Polymer, released in 2013).

With a complete helmet system weight of 2.6 lbs. for Size 1 and 2.75 lbs. for Size 2, boltless CAM FIT retention with Boa closure system for optimized stability and fit, cam-lock sliders for positive locking adjustment, and a customized Zorbium impact liner with 2 full sets of comfort pads, the EXFIL Ballistic is designed to be comfortable during extended use all the while providing leading edge ballistic protection.

“We are thrilled that the ADF has selected the EXFIL Ballistic as their Tier 2 and Tier 3 program of record helmet. We also appreciate the confidence that the ADF has placed in Team Wendy and our partner in Australia, Aquaterro” said Team Wendy CEO Jose Rizo-Patron. “Since launching our EXFIL helmet program 3 years ago, we have worked hard to not only put out some of the most advanced helmet systems in the world, but to also provide our valued customers with industry leading service and support.” Rizo-Patron continued, “Team Wendy also recognizes the importance of working with industry leading strategic partners. To this end, we are pleased to highlight the support of our partners that are associated with the EXFIL Ballistic Helmet – ArmorSource LLC, Wilcox Industries and Boa Technology Inc.”

  1. Dev says:

Huh. I was under the impression that it was going to be between the Ops Core or CP Airframe.

    Solid choice though regardless.

  2. CAVstrong says:

Why can’t the US Army make reasonable acquisition decisions too?

  3. GMK says:

The AirFrame & the Sentry were tranche 1 of Land 125-3B. This is tranches 2 & 3.

  4. MATBOCK_CEO says:

Excellent news!! Congrats to the Team Wendy team and the Aussies for making a great selection! We are proud supports of the high quality products Team Wendy continues to deliver (yes, these guys actually deliver on time).

  5. Attack7 says:

    Excellent choice!!!!!!

  6. Whodares says:

So what is the difference between the tier one, tier two and tier 3 units?
What units will keep the airframe?

I kinda surprise that they choose the team wendy helmet,
Since its offeres less protection than crye airframe or ops core (I might be wrong)

  7. GMK says:

Conventional units with AirFrame (5 RAR, 7 RAR, 1 CER) & Sentry will likely hold on to them until life of type or they next enter the “readying” portion of the FORGEN cycle.

Interested in the “less protection” comment: nothing I’ve read/seen supports that statement. Do you mean “less coverage”, maybe?

    • Robert Paulson says:

I was always under the impression that 1 and 2 RAR were going to be issued with the Crye Airframe when the new AMCU Kit was to be rolled out.

      • GMK says:

There was only one tranche of AurFrames purchased (outside of SOCOMD). 1, 2 & 3 will get the Exfil (Team Wendy) at this stage, I believe.

  8. Whodares says:

    Sorry, yes
    I mean less coverage.
So are these the tier one units in this system?
Will special units like the SAS switch to the team wendy helmet?

  9. GMK says:

Regarding less coverage – it’s all a trade off. Altering the configuration of the coverage means that helmets can be (easily) worn in conjunction with things like CBRNE masks, NVG, ear-pro, combat ID. Try doing that with old PASGT or ECH. The higher cut also helps SA.

Thinking about it, Australia wore “high cut” style helmets in WW1 & WW2, so there’s a precedent for it.
