MATBOCK Monday – Jungle LIFT (J-LIFT)

Over the next few weeks, we will be featuring the team from MATBOCK during our MATBOCK Monday series. The two founders Zach Steinbock and Sean Matson, have been in the industry for years and continue to find ways to innovate. MATBOCK is a Virginia Beach small business and we are excited to see where this featured series is going to lead us.

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to visit the MATBOCK team and they shared with me a new product that was sitting on their work table (fun fact: the tables in their shop are over 40 years old. They were in Sean’s grandmother’s custom drapery shop), the Jungle LIFT (J-LIFT). The J-LIFT is the latest product to join the family of products in the LIFT System. Developed to enhance the capability of the LIFT System, but also support a South American military unit.

The Jungle is a tough environment and this litter is equally as tough. Made from neoprene coated nylon, it will not absorb water and strong enough to carry over 400lbs. Additionally, the litter can double as a hammock; however, we would recommend a bug net on the bottom and top. Lastly, the J-LIFT is compatible with the Combat Carbon Poles.

3.5” Wide x 14 “ Long while stowed
26” Wide x 78” Long when deployed

Weight: 1.6lbs (with carrier)
Weight with poles: 4.1lbs

Out of curiosity, what makes this specifically a jungle lift and is there anything keeping it from being used elsewhere? It seems to me that a lightweight lift system would be useful anywhere, and not just the jungle, esp. with the amount of our troops are carrying these days.

From what I gather, compared to the S-LIFT, the J-LIFT is a heavier-weight, more durable material so it won’t tear if it catches, and non-absorbent so it won’t rot in jungle weather.
The S-LIFT is their original ultralight soft litter, compact and weighing only 10oz (w/o poles) but probably wouldn’t hold up in the jungle for long.

Correct. Plus the customer that we built it for had a requirement for use in the jungle, but this litter can be used anywhere.
