IcePlate Offers three benefits; cooling, hydration and protection. Think of it as High School physics, wrapped in a water bottle, shaped like an armor plate.
IcePlate is intended to be worn near the body in an Armor Plate pocket on a vest. At only 1″ thick, it’s designed to be frozen and the 50 oz of water in the IcePlate’s capacity offers 70 watts of cooling over two hours. Two IcePlates offer 140 combined watts of cooling which meets a US Army goal. What’s more, it doesn’t require power while worn. Additionally, as the ice melts, it offers portable water. Conversely, you can fill it with hot water. It also offers 30% more water storage for the same space as bottled water. It’s also rigid, rather than floppy. Finally, video testing indicates that use of the IcePlate behind soft armor eliminates back face deformation from the NIJ standard of 44 mm down to 0.01 mm, and that’s in all three modes, ice-filled, water-filled and empty.
The IcePlate design is stackable and incorporates an asymmetric drain so you get every last drop. At SHOT Show, Qore Performance is introducing Coyote color to join Clear and Wolf Grey.
IcePlate 2 will introduce a quick disconnect tube so you can configure your hose on your kit just once and won’t have to snake it in and out every time you fill the IcePlate.

Seems like I’ve been seeing these on Facebook in suggested ads a lot. I’m interested how this is supposed to be worn in conjunction with hard and soft armor, or even with hard armor alone. The bladder/plate doesn’t seem to have any taper to it at all, which means it will create a dead spot in between the plate and itself. On certain carriers, like the AVS/CPC, this is irrelevant for comfort since the rear plate is suspended away from your back, but for the rest of the market I can see that as being an issue.
Proprietary tube is pretty ridiculous too, simply allowing the user to use whatever camelbak tubes they have lying around, and all the the proven accessories that go with them makes more sense, especially since those bladders are standard issue.
Source, CamelBac, and the like all make kits that let you use any hose you want with their fittings. It is not hard nor expensive to retrofit this to use your preferred hardware.
We designed IcePlate with an open source tube so it can accept bit valve accessories from legacy manufacturers; allowing users to attach dust covers, tube covers, angled bite valves, etc. to their IcePlate. The IcePlate 2 Q/D works with Source Hydration Q/Ds so you can use the Source UTA and other accessories. IcePlate can be lashed to external soft armor carriers with the included Velcro straps.
Most plates vary in thickness between 5/8″ (Ceradyne SPEAR plates) and 7/8″ (ESAPI). This item being 1″ thick, I don’t see how this would realistically fit in most plate carriers on the market.

IcePlate is designed to fit behind a plate carrier and over your base layer/combat shirt. However, there are some plate carriers where IcePlate can be worn inside the plate pocket with the armor plate itself (Crye JPC, Tactical Tailor to name a couple). One downside is that water in plastic is not good for health.
IcePlate is made from 100% FDA-approved plastic.
IcePlate is also 100% BPA-free.
Filled with 50 fl ounces of water, these weigh 4 lbs a piece; 0.6 lbs less than a small esapi plate. Not bad.
But a small ESAPI plate will stop a round and keep you from losing 50 fl oz of you own fluids.
