BEAVERTON, Ore. — The United States Marine Corps is in the process of fielding the M38, which features a Leupold TS-30A2 Mark 4 MR/T riflescope atop an M27. The configuration is to be known as the Squad-Designated Marksman Rifle. The TS-30A2 Mark 4 MR/T has previously been fielded with the Mk 12 Special Purpose Rifle.
“We pride ourselves on building optics that deliver elite optical performance and unparalleled reliability,” Bruce Pettet, president and chief executive officer for Leupold & Stevens, Inc., said. “We’re ecstatic that the Marine Corps selected the TS-30A2 Mark 4 MR/T. The men and women of the U.S. armed forces deserve the very best, and we’re proud to deliver it.”
The TS-30A2 Mark 4 MR/T, which features a 2.5-8x36mm design, was designed with mid-range applications in mind, and has easy-to-adjust tactical turrets and range estimating reticles. A 30mm maintube provides greater strength and light transmission. As with all Leupold riflescopes, the optic is waterproof, fog proof, and shockproof.
“The TS-30A2 Mark 4 is the perfect optic for those looking to deliver fast, precise rifle fire,” said Sam Horstman, director of military sales for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “Further, like all Leupold optics, it’s been strenuously tested for durability, and fully meets the rugged standards set by the Marine Corps.”

Damn. Marines are being cheap. So many better optics out there these days
Everything is to a budget these days
Gotta pay for those M27s that cost 3-4 times as much as the M4A1.
Baffling selection… 🙁
even looks like it still has the mis-matched MOA turrets (can’t be absolutely certain from the photo)… in 2018?!?
Mil or MOA, they’re using the preset BDC numbers on the dial so it won’t matter much outside of the task of zeroing. Even then it’s trivial considering their SDMs are going to get more training and trigger time on it.
My bet is these are retreads from their Mk12s and that’s fine. They work and they’re already paid for not to mention the corporate knowledge of having used them the last 15 years.
Everything strapped to this platform is a retread, from the DRMO’d Block I can from Crane to the optics and mounts.
This idea should be DRMO’d.
DRMO is now called Distribution Services.
Sincerely,
DLA Employee.
If they’re DRMO’d I get it, although that certainly makes Leupold’s “announcement” misleading, at best. I guess it sounds better than: “USMC is gonna see if they can make do reusing the s.o.s scopes we sold them 16 +- years ago…” If they threw any new money at this, at all, its a bone-headed decision at best with what’s currently available.
Got to shoot these a few weeks ago at a range the BN Gunner had put together. Those are MOA turrets, with the Mil reticle on the second focal plane. When I saw this article I was hoping that someone in the comments could explain why on Earth we’d want this scope…
You already owned them. They were free.
A savvy Jarhead might be able to come across and re-purpose the CQBSS that comes with the heavy guns optic suite on the M2 and Mk19.
