USSOCOM has made the following announcement regarding the purchase of the Advanced Sniper Rifle:
Barrett Firearms Manufacturing Inc., Christiana, Tennessee, was awarded an estimated $49,936,300, five-year, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, firm-fixed-price contract (H92403-19-D-0002) for the purchase of advanced sniper rifles in support of U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). Fiscal 2019 research, development, test and evaluation funds in the amount of $387,234 are being obligated at the time of award. The work will be performed in Christiana, and is scheduled to be completed by March 2024. The solicitation was posted on the Federal Business Opportunities website under “full and open competition” and six proposals were received. USSOCOM, Tampa, Florida, is the contracting activity.
The ASR replace the Precision Sniper Rifle manufactured by Remington. The new ASR is the Barrett Multi-Role Adaptive Design and will fire the 338 Norma Mag, 300 NM and 7.62 NATO cartridges.

ELR is a different program. Doesn’t say anything in the .300 PRC article about USSOCOM’s ASR program.
I’m sorry but I too thought. .300 PRC & 6.5 CM . Where the next official Sniping / Marksman cartridges. If not who are these two rounds for .?

USSOCOM, as has been written here. However, as of right now, neither are part of the ASR requirement.

You’re likely to see 7.62 swapped out for 6.5 CM, but do not hold your breath on 300 PRC.
The thing that’s a little confusing is we’re steaming ahead with 7.62 BDC holds in SVPS instead of planning for 6.5CM. Understood there’s not really a round yet, just seems… interesting.
The issue is that the requirement for ASR was written before 6.5 was selected.
Hmmm, Barrett seems to think they are contracted to produce MRADs with .300PRC caliber conversion kits. Spoke with Ronnie Barrett and Barrett Manager for Military Sales at NRA-Indy about availability of MRAD caliber conversion kit in .300PRC as offered on their web site. He indicated that they will not ship commercial orders until they are caught up on military orders for this caliber. No acknowledgement of 6.5CM for military MRADs. One would think Barrett would know. The MRAD will be designated MK25 replacing Remington MSR, which was chambered in 7.65×51, 300WM, 338LM.
Yes, they are building 300 PRC kits or someone in the government.
They are not manufacturing any ASR yet. The program hasn’t even gone into first article test yet.
