The Army issued a presolicitation yesterday for their Camouflage Improvement Effort. According to the notice, the Army continues to seek out the same things; three patterns, government use of the patterns rights, yada, yada, yada. According to the notice, the actual solicitation will be released 18 March, 2011. Folks in industry were getting itchy so it’s good to see that the Army put something out. Additionally, I am glad they have settled on a term to describe what the are doing although “effort” is somewhat unconventional in the acquisition world. It’s not a full program (although signature management should be) and it’s a bit more than a project at this point. Unfortunately, “effort’ doesn’t exactly instill confidence that it has staying power. I hope once this thing gets some legs under it they get to describe it in more enduring terms.
Read it and weep. www.fbo.gov
I’ve gotten some feedback from readers concerned that this latest presolicitation isn’t as extensive as previous notices. I consider this more of an informational message from the Program Office saying, “Yes, the effort is still alive and it will be released on 18 March.”
What do you think?
I always look to the “Interested Vendors List”, and see who has decided to tell everyone their playing.
Red Sled Inc. is new, and would appear to be an effort from Bulldog Equipment (makers of Mirage). I expected them to participate. Now, just have to wait, and wait, to see what they are bringing to the table.
Actually Bulldog started out as Red Sled.
While I wasn’t aware Bulldog started as Red Sled, by “new”, I was referring to adding their name to the “Interested Vendors List” on any of the FoP solicitations.
Ah, understood. They were well represented at industry day and presented some excellent feedback to the panel.
[…] in case the previous presolicitation message that was released via FedBizOpps on 28 Feb wasn’t enough, the Army issued ANOTHER […]
Jason (Bulldog Tactical owner whom I’ve know for awhile) has been involved with providing Operators (USASOC) with his Mirage long before this solicitation. When the Army went to UCP some ARSOF Operators went with his Mirage. I’ve worn it downrange since 2008.
