I got all excited that this was a new 5.56 using a new P90 style of magazine only to realize it’s just a new chassis for the P90. Drat.
From a practical standpoint loading 5.56x45mm from a P90 style magazine would probably require a new design of 5.56mm cartridge. The 5.7x28mm is basically a cylinder to give it a flat surface in loading. 5.56x45mm can be stacked flat as proven in 10 and 20 round AR15 magazines but more than that? Not likely. The shape doesn’t work and given the plentiful supply of STANAG magazines what would be the point.
Not to mention the lubricated slash lacquered cartridges that facilitate the P90’s magazine design in the first place. Without some space magic going on, there’d be no way for a transversely feeding magazine in 5.56
All true, it’s just I’m not a 5.7 fanboy. I know others are, and I’m sure they’ll love this.
Damn, I thought we were closer to phased array plasma rifles in the 40watt range.
