In what is the biggest news of Modern Day Marine, DRIFIRE and Crye Precision have teamed up to introduce an FR, certified, PCU level 9 garment. This gives SOCOM its first SOF Unique FR combat uniform option that is available to any units on the SPEAR program.
DRIFIRE is offering their performance FR fabric called Foretrex and Crye Precision created the garment design. Foretrex is not only FR but also wear resistant, moisture wicking and anti-microbial.
It integrates the features found on the Crye Precision combat uniform, including the interface for the Crye knee pad, and is a great option for those requiring FR coverage.
Available in virtually any camouflage pattern, the first run is in Woodland camouflage. However, it is important to note that the stretch panels at the lumbar and knees are non-FR.

If memory serves, Crye already sources the knit fabric from Drifire for their standard combat shirts, right?
So does that mean that drifire now provides both the torso knit fabric and the woven camo material found on the pants & shirt sleeves?

How many BDU uniforms does SOCOM have now? I understand the need for different patterns, but whole different BDUs from different companies seems excessive. Beyond, Patagucci, Cry, any others?
I have trouble understanding why SOCOM needs an SOF unique BDU when everyone else is already using FR BDUs / combat uniforms. Just print those in woodland. Budgets are being cut, and everyone is loosing bodies, but fuck it, lets go out and get another shinny new uniform at a few hundred a set.
Why? Well for one thing, neither Big Army or Marine Corps have a standard issue uniform with integrated knee protection. SOCOM does.
If you want a set or two, there’s always selection.
Was not wondering why SOCOM has a different combat uniform than Big Army or the Marines, but why they need three different ones.
Also, the current Army Combat Pant has integrated knee pads, and is FR. I believe it is made by Crye as well. Is this just a woodland pattern of that, or something new to go blow money on, instead of training?

Ask the services why they all have different uniforms. It’s a good question. They ACP is still not standard issue and the test garments have been manufactured by a variety of manufacturers including Crye.
I’m not really following your logic train tho. If personnel need pants, they need pants. Training and pants are apples and oranges.
I guess it’s about time. I begged in 2011 for Crye to help me and some of my guys out with a uniform in woodland. They said we had to have 100 sets. I told them we couldn’t do that because the unit wouldn’t pay for them. So, we wore regular BDUs. Last fall, deploying over here with the Commandos. I again, begged for Crye to sell me a woodland set. They again said order 100 sets or nothing. Eventually, our unit ordered us two sets of Patagonias in woodland which are nice. I see now on here that they have the woodland. I guess it’ll take forever to get a set because of all the airsofters of the world.
I’m curious, why would air sorters get the uniforms? Did you read the article?
I found it hard to tell if it was going to be offered to just SOCOM or if it was going to be available for purchase from Crye/Drifire. Marsoc got the Cryes in woodland and those ended up posted by the dozens on ebay by someone. Airsofters were paying big money for them hence my comment. I have two sets of Cryes in multicam and they are, IMO, superior uniforms. That’s why I was wanting a set in woodland. We try to wear the same pattern as them. If you had your choice between a set of Cryes and a regualar BDU uniform to wear, which would you choose? I would choose Crye but it went unsupported.
I don’t know what was confusing. It’s a PCU Level 9 option. Until this recent announcement by Patagonia/Elite Defense, the newer PCU garments have not been available publicly and even with that program, availability will new very restrictive. If you are part of SPEAR, your unit will be able to order the new Crye/DRIFIRE Lvl 9s. If not, you will be able to find them on eBay when guys who are on SPEAR start selling them just like they did with the previous uniforms. Crye did not offer those for sale commercially.
And shame on you for not taking Crye up on that offer. Only 100 sets? I don’t know how they were going to even break even at that number. 100 sets is barely a platoon’s worth. What a generous offer from them.
Trust me. I tried. Unit laughed when I told them. If the money had been there, it would have been easy. There just wasn’t the funds. I’ll get on a Level 9 new order to replace our Patagonias as soon as I get home. Thanks for the info.

I had the same issue with them. I called several times to have them make a few changes and I got the ‘ya your not cool enough’ but other up and comers a helped me out. Sad they forget who made them.

When will they get rid of the stupid black and white Crye label that is stitched into the garments in strategically hard to remove places?
When will they use camo matched jersey knit for the torso?
It’s not as easy or inexpensive as it sounds. The general feeling is that it is only worn with armor so it doesn’t matter. Fortunately, I’m starting to see non-FR color matched combat shirts. Maybe FR will follow.
It’s their branding. It’s how you know that you got Crye.
Crye had FR capabilities a couple years back, did they lose it? Drifires combat uniform is also a quality uniform. Good to see the two combining.
Crye does manufacture uniforms in TenCate Defender-M but what you generally see is 50/50 NYCO. That is a no melt no drip solution but not full on FR.
Crye has FR capability, and I don’t claim to know shit about FR, but I do prefer the feel of DriFire to Crye. DriFire dries quicker and breathes better IMO. This is the best of both worlds as far as I am concerned. Between this and Beyond, I see myself picking up another full set of Woodlands.
