SOMA – Zanfel Labs

20131215-195549.jpg

We first mentioned Zanfel Poison Ivy Wash from Zanfel Labs during Modern Day Marine 2011 when we found out that it is designed to allow an affected person to literally wash away urushiol oil which is the toxin contained in certain plants. It irritates 85% of the population. The Zanfel wash can be used at anytime after contact and on any part of the body including the face and genitals. This stuff really works. We’ve used a couple of times over the past few years and it offers relief within hours.

Zanfel Labs is offering this graphic to help instruct people how to identify the plants that secrete urushoil thereby preventing irritations before they happen. We asked if we could share it and they agreed. Also, don’t forget, poison ivy oils can stay viable for up to 5 years. Clothing, gear and footwear, in particular laces retain these oils. According to Zanfel Lans, the best cure for this issue is to wash these items with simple dishwashing liquid.

Best results occur if used with two hours of exposure. Their reps were all over the visitors area Jamboree 2013, and even provided a whole troop with “samples” after exposure to poison ivy during a service project. They made it clear to me that you have to purchase it from a pharmacy.

    • SSD says:

We talked about the use during Jambo 2013.

You can purchase it over the counter.

      • Dan says:

Yes, over the counter at a drug store, the representative I spoke to said that this would allow you to get a medical opinion if you wanted one. You can also request an information package that comes with some samples and brochures.

  2. Tim L says:

I’m not sure who you talked to, but if you go to the site provided by SSD it says it is available at Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, etc. and even has a lilnk to buy it on Amazon.

    • Dan says:

I wasn’t aware it was available from amazon. The others make sense though; they all provide pharmacists you can turn to. I used pharmacy when I should have used drug store. I just meant that you would not find Zanfel at REI.

I swear I have been all in eastern poison ivy, oak, and sumac and didn’t know it. Now that I know what it actually looks like, I bet next time it will leave red from head to toe.

  4. Dan Boelman RN, BSN says:

Zanfel Poison Ivy Wash has been clinically shown to work ANYTIME after outbreak of the rash. There is no upper time limit when Zanfel loses effect. Zanfel is safer and more effective then steroids or antihistamines.

Personally I am partial to Technu wash as it is about half the price of this stuff and seems to work really well and you don’t need water. I have had some wicked reactions to poison ivy throughout the North East and Technu has saved my butt on a number of occasions. I have yet to try Zanfel, but would be willing to give it a go if it works well.

  6. Lightfighter says:

My experience is that Zanfel works.

That said, it took MULTIPLE washes of the affected areas – about $130 worth of Zanfel – and an entire bottle of calamine before I saw serious improvement.

  7. Mike Nomad says:

Thanks for posting the One Sheet. Haven’t seen a couple of these in person.

  8. Joe says:

I am extremely allergic to poison ivy. I get a bad case at least every other year despite my best efforts to avoid any contact. Zanfel is by far the best product that I have ever used. Someone else mentioned Technu. I’d say that is probably my second favorite. I still have to take a steroid Z-pack but Zanfel reduces the symptoms and duration better than anything else I have tried. I buy it at Rite Aid or my local mom & pop pharmacy over the counter. Zanfel is expensive ($20 plus) but worth it to me. I rarely both to post and recommend stuff but if it helps reduce anyone’s suffering, it is worth it.
