Today Is National POW/MIA Recognition Day

Friday, September 20th, 2013

I grew up in a military that was still full of Viet Nam Vets and the thought of American servicemen being left behind really meant a lot to us as a community. And, there was still hope that we might get some of those men back, alive. And while those hopes have gone for many, as a nation we still endeavor to recover the remains of our missing through the efforts of the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command which has gone through a variety of name changes over the years.

While we’ve been fortunate to not have many POWs or MIAs in this conflict, please take some time to reflect on those over the years who didn’t make it back and must wander in our prayers and dreams until we can one day bring them home and unite them with their loved ones.

Congratulations Alex and Keshauna!

WTFF – Did Someone’s Stupid Button Get Stuck?

Wednesday, September 11th, 2013

Over the past few days I’ve seen several “industry professionals” be anything but. I will not tolerate companies or individuals bashing one another. It really torques my head bolts that I have to regularly remind the collective readership that the Internet dehumanizes us and gives us this false sense that we can wild out and say any old crazy shit we want.

This behavior is unacceptable as a guest in my house; SSD. Address one another as you would if it was in person. That is the standard of behavior.

Cut the BS.

Update to SSD Sale Post Policy

Wednesday, September 4th, 2013

In early July, SSD was forced to place restrictions on sale announcements. Now, due to abuse of our generosity, we are implementing additional controls on sale announcements. Effective immediately, we will only post one sale announcement per month for non-advertising companies. It is unfair to the companies that support SSD for us to provide what amounts to free advertising to their competitors. Once a month is more than enough to allow small businesses to showcase their products and services to our readers. Additionally, we still require a 48 hour lead time to place any sales into our editorial lineup.

We are investing a great deal of time and money in a new solution that will allow vendors to post their own sales, free of charge. This will be great for vendor and reader alike, as it will be a one-stop for deals. But, until then, these policies will have to suffice in order to prioritize the editorial content of SSD.

This is not to be confused with product announcements. As always, you do not need to be an advertiser to submit those but we reserve the right to share those items we feel are right for our readers.

9000 Posts!

This past week, SSD posted its 9000th article. Not too shabby for a website that’s just over five years old. Don’t worry, I won’t break my arm patting myself on the back. I’ve got much too much planned for the next accomplishment, 10 000 posts, to do it one-handed.

Innovative Technology Summit Donates to MARSOC Foundtion

Wednesday, August 14th, 2013

Each year Corps Technology Group holds the Innovative Technology Summit in Washington, DC to bring together Government and Industry to discuss technology innovation. Each year the event also donates proceeds from the event to a charity. This year CSG, the event co-sponsors and attendees raised $5000 for the MARSOC Foundation. Below, Buck Holly presents Tim Scott with a check.

A little about the MARSOC Foundation.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, the MARSOC Foundation provides benevolent support to the U. S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC). The Foundation supports active duty and medically retired MARSOC personnel and their families, as well as the families of Marines who have lost their lives in service to our Nation. MARSOC Foundation services are those unmet by the government or other organizations.
