Designed for use as close combat boots, the new Melee series of footwear offers several styles, including full boot (8″), ankle height (6″) and low cut (3″). In addition to the traditional Black and Tan there is also a new Brown color called Canteen intended to serve as civyflauge.
Look for these by December.
A collaborative effort between Palladium Boots and London-based fashion label Maharishi has led to the creation of the Maharishi Tactical boot. The Maharishi Tactical features an upper constructed from rubberized full grain leather and 2520 denier ballistic nylon. The side, collar and heel panels are made of Schoeller Dynatec, a specialty textile that consists of reflective threads and tiny reflective glass beads. This material reflects light and is visible up to 100 meters away. The boot also features a Dri-Lex moisture wicking lining for breathability and sweat control, a thick PU material sockliner, and a padded collar with red Maharishi branding on the inside. A nice boot all around, but does anyone else see a double-edged sword in that reflective material?

For those of you unfamiliar with ARRSE, it is a British military forum that prides itself in a no-holds-barred look at life in the service. Additionally, it offers a great deal of content on weapons, equipment and military culture. For example, take a gander at the wiki, called appropriately, “ARRSEpedia” entry for “Walts.”
They recently reviewed the MultiCam version of the upcoming Magnum Intrepid HPi Running Shoe. The shoes incorporate Magnum’s Ion-Mask technology which encapsulates the shoe’s materials so that they can’t absorb moisture. The bottom line is that the reviewer likes them. Go see why.
Danner displayed their Danner Flight Assault (DFA) line released at SHOT Show. These styles integrate their Vertical Insertion Arrestor (VIA) technology which is designed to assist with control during fast rope descents. The Canteen, seen here, is a Gore-tex lined boot features toe lacing and an upper manufactured from a combination of 1000D Cordura and Nubuck leather. Additionally, the Danner Descender outsole is made from a Vibram V-4 ultra-abrasion rubber compound.
Finally, they were also giving sneak peeks (sorry, no photos allowed) of two new high top styles that will debut next SHOT Show. These are pretty nice and will be a great lightweight, low-profile option who are looking for tactical features without the signature.
Outdoor industry publication Leisure Trends has rated the Vasque Breeze GTX as the number one brown boot for the past five years. In the outdoor industry, brown boot is a mainstay hiking boot. So obviously, it’s popular. Unfortunately, Vasque hasn’t really caught the eye of military personnel until recently.
What has made the Breeze so popular is its EVA midsole, usually found in trail and running shoes, paired with a stiff TPU plate. So you get torsional support combined with trail shoe comfort. These same features will do well for military personnel who wear hiking style shoes.
Finally, the Breeze features a Gore-tex sock and Vibram outsole.
FIVE TEN is now producing the Water Tennie. It looks like a water and climbing shoe mated and had a really cool kid. Originally intended as a kayaking shoe, some of our Nation’s Finest saw them and thought they might work for certain mission sets as VBSS. It turns out they were right. Add a sticky AquaStealth rubber sole with a rubberized toe, ankle coverage and mesh panels, the Water Tennie is just as great for recreation as MAROPS.
Available now from FIVE TEN tactical dealers. For more info visit www.fiveten.com
