SGT Shawn Michael Farrell

SGT Shawn Michael Farrell was part of A-CO 1-32, 3rd BCT, 10th Mountain Division. On April 28th 2014 he was part of a team that got ambushed from multiple positions. Supporting a U.S. Army Special Forces ODA he manned a mk47 grenade launcher. Two hours into the TIC he had gone through most of the cans of ammo, his truck was shot to hell, and the MK47 went down. He quickly pulled out a SAW and exposed himself over the chicken plate to engage multiple advancing enemy combatants. He was struck by a rifle round through his arm and into his chest, but his last words to the team were “I got him”.

I Got Him

The shirt features SGT Shan Farrell’s initials “SMF” along with the date he was KIA. On the back, the Gold Star signifying a combat loss, a scroll with his last quote, and the combat goat head for his service supporting 3rd Special Forces Group.

Do You Even Airborne, Bro? Stickers

Tuesday, May 13th, 2014

I am a big fan of the ‘Do You Even Airborne, Bro?’ Facebook Page. They’ve just introduced their first morale items which are three cool stickers. They’re so cool, even legs will love them. Even better, 10% of the proceeds from the stickers are going to benefit Stop Soldier Suicide, a national civilian not-for-profit organization dedicated to preventing active and Veteran suicide.

Currently, there are three different stickers available: ‘Sky Shark’, ‘Paratroopers Don’t Die, They Just Slip Away’ and their classic logo.

Quaff With Smith Optics And S&S Precision At SOFIC 2014

Monday, May 12th, 2014

Join Smith Optics and S&S Precision for the 2nd Annual Gelande Quaffing Championship being held Wednesday, May 21st in Tampa, Florida – Dock Slip in front of Jackson’s Bistro. Teams for the competition must consist of four members, all over the age of 21; costumes are not only welcome, but will also help teams in gaining points. The contest is international, so everyone is welcome, although participants must be willing to drink “…weak a** Yank Beer”. Last year, Team Mystery Ranch took the championship in strong fashion, and are likely hungry for a second victory, so all participants better bring their A-game.

If you’re attending, be sure to bring a bit of cash as there will also be a silent auction for some great gear, with the proceeds going to support the All In All The Time Foundation.

Not sure what this whole Gelände Quaffing thing is all about? Read this and then check out the video.

In 1986, the skis were skinny and the snow was fat, during a 14 foot storm, the infamous underground crew of the Jackson Hole Air Force was going stir crazy in the Bear Claw Café, waiting for the mountain to open. In those days the bartender would send a freshly filled beer mug sliding down the bar to the patron who ordered it. One fateful night a beer mug slid off the end of the bar, took air, was caught seconds before a glass shattering catastrophe, and promptly pounded. Gelände Quaffing was born. Apres’ ski competitions followed, testing the unique skills of all who entered, and provided exciting entertainment for all spectators. But somewhere along the way Gelände Quaffing was lost and the après ski spirit forgotten.

Climb for the Fallen – Kevin’s Climb

Sunday, May 11th, 2014

I was recently made aware of an effort among some of my former cohorts and friends to memorialize a truly exceptional warrior we lost during my last deployment. I was so touched by their vision and inspired by this group of exceptional individuals organizing the effort, I felt compelled to share and contribute to getting this project the recognition it deserves. – AV

Climb for the Fallen

Climb for the Fallen (CFTF) is being established as a Virginia-based 501(c)3 non-profit seeking to memorialize fallen US service members whose lives were lost during combat operations and support their families by empowering them through outdoor experience and adventure. The organization was founded by a group of friends who are outdoor enthusiasts, climbers, and adventurers who wanted to contribute to the memory of our fallen American heroes through something unique.

CFTF’s first project, Kevin’s Climb is to establish a first ascent, memorial route on a 1000 foot rock face in the Sierra Nevadas named for their fallen teammate. Kevin Ebbert was one of those individuals who touched everyone he encountered in one way or another and left a lasting positive impression in everyone’s mind. He was genuine, deliberate, and driven; a warrior, friend, teammate, and leader to all who knew him.

Climb for the Fallen 2

After graduating from the University of California, Santa Cruz, Kevin enlisted in the United States Navy and became a Navy SEAL. Kevin deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 and due to his outstanding work as a medic was meritoriously advanced through the combat promotion system and awarded a Bronze Star with Combat V. Kevin had a plan to attend medical school and pursue his dream as a doctor following his military commitment and had set the wheels in motion to do so. During his second deployment to Afghanistan, on November 24th 2012, Kevin Ebbert, was killed in action by enemy fire while moving to support teammates during combat operations in Southeast Afghanistan.

To support Kevin’s Climb, CFTF has launched a Kickstarter Campaign to help with the expenses of travel, equipment, and the documentary production. CFTF feels that just doing the climb is not enough and seeks to create a professional product to capture the experience and celebrate the life of a friend who paid the ultimate sacrifice. In addition to the Kickstarter campaign, Climb for the Fallen will soon be capable of receiving contributions directly as a 501(c)3 from those interested signing up as corporate sponsors or individuals who would prefer to make contributions directly instead of contributing via Kickstarter. Climb for the Fallen can be contacted at team@climbforthefallen.com and the various hyperlinks included above provide further details about the organization and Kevin’s Climb.
