SOTech Shines Light on Benefits of Employing Veterans

Wednesday, August 29th, 2012

Green Vets LA / VIPER Program makes the front page of the Los Angeles Times as the vote goes to Sacramento. The Green Vets LA Element of VIPER (Veterans Industry Program for Employment Reintegration) has found itself bridging the right and the left wings of California politics. Jim Cragg and SOTech staff members supporting GVLA have made the rounds of California Senate and Assembly offices to illuminate the veterans issues, job creation, and economic impact of the proposed single use plastic bag ban in California. Previously the ban was seen only as an environmental issue until Cragg raised the banner of jobs for vets.

Having experienced firsthand the protection of American sewing jobs under the Berry Act in Defense Contracting, Cragg brought to light the benefits of legislation that protects and encourages American design and manufacturing. Not only do veterans of the GVLA program benefit from sewing and assembly jobs created here, but the American sewing industry as a whole will see gains, and this comes at an important time as Defense sewing projects begin to dwindle with an end to American troop deployments on the horizon. Beyond the political and industrial implications of the issue, the LA Times article captured the human side of the issue with some gut-wrenching interviews of formerly homeless Veterans in the VIPER program.

There’s a reason Über Group is our favorite rep group (yes, they are the only rep group we know, but they’re our favorite all the same) and that reason is that they represent some of the best outdoor (and tactical crossover) products in the industry. Now, they’ve added NEMO Equipment to their offerings. NEMO is well known for their innovative shelters and keep systems.

Über Group’s territory is the South Eastern US for most companies they represent but they have some additional territorial responsibilities for certain lines.

Diamondback Tactical Launches E-Commerce Site

Monday, August 27th, 2012

Diamondback Tactical LLLP has launched a new E-Commerce web site with access to overstock inventory and 72 hour shipping. These products include an expansive array of tactical ammunition, less lethal and utility pouches; specialized pouches; and overstocked bags, packs and racks, which were previously a trademark of Diamondback Tactical’s nylon gear product line, BattleLab. All stocked items will ship in less than 72 hours, while inventory lasts.

“We are excited about releasing the online store, and the ability it will give us to display our wide range of tactical products,” said Roland VanSkiver, V.P. of Global Sales for Diamondback Tactical. “Our new online store answers the call from operators worldwide for trusted DBT gear they can purchase at the click of a button. This launch is just the tip of the iceberg. Operators are encouraged to visit frequently as we continue to build and add tactical gear to the site.”

Additionally, Diamondback Tactical has also begun the design of its new and improved BattleLab tactical gear line, slated for release in Q4 2012. The standard BattleLab line will also be offered online and merchandised across the country through Diamondback Tactical’s authorized distributor network.

The new E-Commerce web site is just the latest in features added to Diamondbacktactical.com. The site was redesigned last winter to provide its users with more product information, as well as a refreshed visual identity. The redesign better showcases the premium products manufactured by Diamondback Tactical, made in America.

Rick Elder Moving to 5.11 Tactical as VP of SOF Products

Thursday, August 16th, 2012

It seems like just the other day that Rick Elder had left Government service supporting USSOCOM at Natick and had accepted a position as Executive Director Smith Optics Elite Division. He’s done one hell of a job during his time at Smith. Maybe that’s why the past two years seems like just yesterday. Time sure flies when you’re having fun. But, today is a new day, and Smith Optics announces that Rick is leaving and 5.11 Tactical announces that in October, he will join them as Vice President of Special Operations Forces Products.

The move is extremely amicable and Rick won’t be leaving Smith immediately. He’s going to stick around for two months to help in finding his replacement, as well as spending additional time in ensuring a smooth transition.

Rick Elder provided SSD with the following statement, “I have greatly enjoyed my time at Smith Optics, working with a fantastic team that over the last two years helped propel this division into one of the top tier ballistic eyewear providers in the world. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity that Smith provided me and proud of all that we have accomplished.”

Regarding the new opportunity with 5.11 Tactical, “I am excited to join the 5.11 Tactical leadership team in October. While I cannot yet share the specifics of 5.11’s plans to serve the Special Operations communities, I look forward to telling you more about the company’s plan for 2013 before the end of this year.”

First off, congrats to Rick, who I’ve known for many years, on his new position. Second, congrats to 5.11 Tactical for landing Rick. He’s a very talented guy. Finally, think about 5.11 starting a division to concentrate on SOF Products. This announcement has so many implications and we can’t wait to see where this will take them.
