Duffle Bag Back Pack Project

Friday, July 20th, 2012

The Duffle Bag Back Pack Project on indiegogo has caught our eye. The idea is to repurpose,” old Military Duffel bags into new, Every Day Carry book bags. They are using indiegogo to crowd source their startup costs and are trying to raise $750 to get started. This will be used to purchase enough Duffel Bags, Thread, Buckles, Webbing, and Foam Support to be able to fabricate enough prototypes to send to be reviewed, tested, and ultimately judged. Naturally, they are offering a variety of ‘perks’ for those that invest.

The makers envision three models –

Basic model – no flap and side pockets

Standard model – flap and side pockets

Advanced model – flap, side pockets, and a hidden compartment for a concealed carry pistol

If you are interested in investing in this concept to give some new life to duffel bags, you will be entered into a drawing. According to the site, these are the prizes –

There are currently FIVE prizes, so that means there will be FIVE winners, and more prizes are being added! Currently our prizes are 1 Next Level Training SIRT Performer Student Training Pistol (MSRP $219)- This is a non-firing laser training pistol designed to help you train your weapons manipulation skills and trigger control 1 Blind Horse Knives Frontier Knive (MSRP $60), Blind Horse Knives hand makes all of their knives, and they are of exceptional quality and crafstmanship. This is a knife that you will be wanting to pass down through the generations. 1 Battle Arms Development Three Lever Selector kit (MSRP $60) for your AR 15 with patch and decal, the selector switches are ergonomically designed and a great improvement over the Selector switches that come standard, 1 Leitner-Wise Manufacturing Battle Shot Shot Glass (MSRP $16), these shot glasses are designed after the AR15 compensator/flash hider. They are certainly very cool and will turn heads anytime you go out with your friends. The quality and craftsmanship on these shot glasses is absolutely outstanding. The last prize is 1 Duffel Back Pack. If you donate even just $1, you could still have the chance to win a Duffel Back Pack! Also, please keep in mind that ALL perks are still valid! If you donate $100, AND win the prize drawing, you will get all of the perks listed, plus whatever the prize is!

Kickstarter Find – Andromeda: Tactical Lighting

Saturday, July 14th, 2012

To be sure, the only thing tactical about Andromeda’s offering is the look. Having said that, this is a very cool lamp that will fit great in the war room.

Inspired by quad rail fore ends, Andromeda adapted the Picatinny rail to a tri-rail design.

Both the legs and shades are fully adjustable. They also integrate top end materials such as Black anodized aluminum, nostalgic filament bulb, composite grade nylon, woven cord, and and anodized accents.

Pay It Forward

Thursday, July 12th, 2012

Recently a student for an upcoming Grey Group Training class couldn’t make it. Instead of taking his deposit back, he asked that it go toward a deserving student. At that point, GGT realized that others would be willing to help out as well and Pay It Forward was born. This is how GGT explains the program on their site.

Started by a kind student who couldn’t attend his class, he graciously gave his deposit to another worthy student. We asked our customers and overwhelmingly the opinion was it should be a member of our Armed Services or Law Enforcement, and specifically, someone wounded and in need. Our solution is to pay it forward by offering you the ability to give money toward a class slot. It doesn’t have to be much because anything can help. Once there is enough money for a class slot we will find a worthy student and offer it to them. Because of YOUR kindness, Grey Group Training will match it with another free slot to a training class. We are working with local and national organizations to find people that have given so much for our country and our freedom, and give back to them. Please pay it forward and contribute what you can.

Thunder Challenge

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

Billed as “The First Obstacle Racing Course Created, Lead and Produced By Navy SEALs and US Special Forces Soldiers,” Thunder Challenge was created in 2011 by former US Army Blackhawk Pilot, Rusty Schellman. The event pits adventure racers against a series of challenges devised by US Special Operators. The course covers 10K of terrain, with 20 to 25 unique challenges spread across variable conditions and obstacles including climbs, mud pits and even cold water tests of endurance. However, due to the size of the undertaking participants attack the course in pre-staged waves over the course of two days. It’s just that big. But don’t let this intimidate you. It’s definitely a family atmosphere. there’s even a Little Warriors obstacle course for ages 6-12.

An inaugural event was held in May but there are three additional planned this year.
• August 4 & 5: Thunder Challenge Rockies in Castle Rock, CO
• October 6 & 7 Thunder Challenge Steel in Pittsburgh, PA
• December 8 & 9: Thunder Challenge Southern California (site TBA)

A portion of the proceeds of each race go to Project Sanctuary, a non-profit organization that helps support Veterans and their families. Additionally, plans call for hiring Wounded Warriors into key positions as the company grows.

For those interested, there are still opportunities to sponsor the events.
