Recognize Kindness: News from the Tango Yankee Project

Action for the common good and an attitude of gratitude: is there really a downside to either?

The Tango Yankee Project believes in both. To that end, it has not only updated its message to include people outside the veteran community, but it has now made PVC morale patches available.

Walk around with a couple of them in your pocket or pack. Watch for someone behaving in a way that deserves to be given one. Behave in a way that’s equally deserving. It’s magical.

What’s a Tango Yankee chip? Imagine a challenge coin and a thank-you card had a baby. Use it to acknowledge someone doing the right thing, having a good attitude, or just doing things to be a good human. It’ll make their day…might help make the world a better place.

SOAR XLIV – A Virtual Experience – Oct 19 thru 22 via Zoom

Special Operations Association Virtual Reunion (SOAR) XLIV is taking place 19-22 October via Zoom. The SOA is second in size only to the Special Forces Association when it comes to Special Forces members, but SOA is open to a wider audience.

Because the reunion is virtual, there are no fees and it’s been opened up to all Special Forces members & Veterans, and those interested in MACV-SOG history.

Several events will be of interest to many of of you. The Plei Me Webinar, the SF Authors Book talk, vendor tables, the POW/MIA presentation, MOH Video presentation on SGM Thomas “Patrick” Payne, the SOA Video History Project update, and, of course, hospitality rooms where you can socialize with your friends.

Prairie Fire Art Co Presents “The Professional” – Billy Waugh with MACVSOG in Laos

This is Prairie Fire Art Co’s latest piece, “The Professional”. This pencil on paper was created to honor the legendary SGM Billy Waugh (USA, Ret) during his time in MACVSOG, while operating in Laos.

The artist offered this background on SGM Waugh.

Billy Waugh had a 50 year career in Army Special Forces and as a paramilitary officer. He patrolled the jungles of Laos and Vietnam. He hunted down Carlos the Jackal. He was the first to put sights on UBL and he invaded Afghanistan when most said he was too old for the mission. “Beware of an old man in a profession where men usually die young”.

The best part of this project was sitting down with SGM Waugh and discussing his missions – or at least what little he is at liberty to share. While this drawing is a tribute to his entire career, I wanted to show SGM Waugh on a MACVSOG recon mission. Deep in the jungle, moving slowly, cautiously, listening to every sound and constantly scanning the bush for NVA. At the time he was older than most on the recon teams and he told me he felt a tremendous duty to his men – to see them through each mission alive. To this day, Billy still invests in younger generations of quiet professionals.

Spec War Store

Spec War Store is a small, veteran-owned business in Texas. Like me, Johnny Reid served in both the Army and Air Force, but he started in the Air Force and ended up retiring from the Army, while I made the opposite trek. At any rate, we worked together off and on over the years and both served in various SOF units. He’s a solid guy.
