NRA Life Of Duty – Outlaw Platoon – Part 3

Saturday, August 31st, 2013

Part 3 of the NRA Life of Duty series ‘Outlaw Platoon’, based on the book of the same name, is now available online.

In 2006 Lt. Sean Parnell and the men under his leadership, known as the Outlaw Platoon, deployed to one of the most dangerous areas of Afghanistan, less than 10 miles from the Pakistani border. Their mission was to disrupt and destroy this network at all costs – to seek out enemy positions and thwart the movement of insurgent forces into and out of the safe haven of Pakistan. After a year in some of the most intense combat imaginable in a 360-degree battlefield, the only thing Sean Parnell and his men wanted to do was survive.

Iron Hammer Armory – 1st Annual ‘Circle The Wagons’ Field Training Event

Tuesday, August 27th, 2013

Circle The Wagons

Iron Hammer Armory is hosting the First Annual ‘Circle the Wagons’ field training event in Byers, Colorado on October 19th and 20th. Over 20 introductory firearms and tactical courses will be available over the two-day period. Instructors include members of Rockwell Tactical Group, professional shooter Dani Bryan, and members of the American Centurion Network. In addition to the courses, there will also be timed events with cash/prize awards. Registration includes single course, day pass, and weekend pass options; day and weekend passes are limited. Further details, including a full list of courses, pricing, and class requirements can be found here.

Note: 30 rounds mags are legal to own in Colorado, and legal to use. The misconceptions about Colorado ridiculous new law is the driving reason for Circle the Wagons. Colorado law bans the TRANSFER of hi-cap mags, not their use or possession. As long as you “owned” them prior to July 1st of this year, you are legal to use them.

Brownsea Island – An Experiment That Led To Scouting

Friday, August 23rd, 2013

As many of you know, I grew up in Scouting and my sons are Scouts as well. I am fascinated with the roots of the Scouting movement in B-P’s military manual, “Aids to Scouting” which was later expanded into a serialized book targeted at boys and the Brownsea Island experiment. Even during that summer, he had no intention of being the head of an organization for boys. He just wanted to validate his concept.

Lieutenant General Robert Baden-Powell (he pronounced it POE-el, btw) in a uniform from the South African Constabulary at the first Boy Scout camp on Brownsea Island in 1907. The camp was an experiment to see if his “scouting” concepts developed during his time in South Africa would actually work with boys. B-P made a point of recruiting boys from both the upper and lower classes to see if they could work together. Obviously, it was successful, but it still was not his intent to start a movement. B-P thought other boys organizations might find it useful, but boys started reading his book, “Scouting for Boys”, and starting Scout patrols and troops, sometimes themselves recruiting a man to be their Scoutmaster.

Vet Corps Launches First T-shirt

Located in a Los Angeles Veterans Hospital, Vets Corps USA has printed its first run of shirts. The veteran generated designs represent the leadership principals of the military and hold to the program’s ethos that Veterans are leaders, not victims. On its surface, the Vets Corps program teaches design, management, silk screening, printing, sewing and assembly, but the underlying goal is to create an environment where veterans build their self-esteem while working to rejoin the society they once defended. All proceeds from the sales of the shirts go back to the program to pay the Vets themselves and for machinery, supplies and instruction. The designs are printed on American made high quality T-shirts. Vets Corps is already taking orders for shirt printing from other non-profit organizations and companies that want to send their print work to a Veteran charity. Contact Deirdre or Jodi at Vets Corps at (310) 202-9007 to receive a quote on T-shirt printing. Vets Corps started as a charity founded by SOTech staff members to incorporate assembly of SOTech medical kits into a vocational therapy program for Veterans giving them a sense of supporting the GWOT. This program expanded into sewing cloth shopping bags to encourage a sense of sewing bags to clean the environment. After a grant of printing equipment, the program was able to incorporate art therapy and industrial print into the program. Watch for new veteran shirt designs coming soon.

Mil-Spec Monkey Logo Spotted In Call Of Duty: Ghosts Footage

Thursday, August 22nd, 2013

This article was featured yesterday on Tactical Fanboy.

Monkey In CoD

I was watching some of the alpha multiplayer footage from Call of Duty: Ghosts and I noticed a very familiar looking logo being used as a player emblem. Specifically, it’s the Mil-Spec Monkey logo, slightly altered to include either some frost or a white beard along the chin. I contacted Monkey directly about spotting this, to get his take on its inclusion in the game. The verdict? While I wasn’t flat out told directly, it doesn’t look like its use was authorized by Monkey himself.

It can be seen in this video around the 1:30 and 1:50 marks.
